(A/N: I like fluff almost as much as I like angst, so of course I had to write this scene. Enjoy!)

Never Say Never

Boq shifts nervously as he waits for Nessa to appear in the room. He knows that she is never on time for dinner, but today he can't wait. He needs to see her now.

"Hello, Boq," Nessa says stiffly as she wheels into the room.

"Hello, Madame," Boq responds, calling Nessa "Madame" out of habit and wanting to kick himself for that.

"Boq, I've asked you to call me Nessa," Nessa repeats for the millionth time.

"Right. Sorry…Nessa."

Nessa raises her eyebrow in suspicion, but doesn't say anything about it. "What's for dinner?" she asks.

Boq places a plate in front of her. "Pasta without sauce, salad without tomatoes or mushrooms, and of course, your tea."

Nessa beams. "My favorite foods. How did you know?"

Boq shrugs. "I just know these kinds of things," he answers, even though the truth is that Nessa told him once, a long time ago.

Just like every night, they eat in silence, but this night, after she is done eating, Nessa says "That was delicious."

"Thanks. I made it. Um…Nessa, would you come with me to the pond?"

"Of course I will."

Boq pushes Nessa to the small, pretty pond only a few minutes away from the Governor's Mansion.

"Well, here we are," he announces.

"Here we are," Nessa repeats. "Could you help me out of my chair? I'd like to sit on the grass."

Boq carefully lifts Nessa out of her chair and places her on the grass. "Look, Nessa, um, Nessa…I have to ask you something." He pauses, not because he wants to be dramatic, but because he's not sure if he can go on. Glancing at Nessa's eager face, Boq knows he needs to continue. "Nessa, I love you. Will you marry me?"

"I'm dreaming, aren't I?" Nessa asks. "This can't be real."

"It's real," Boq assures her. He shows her the ring he got her as proof.

"Of course. Of course I'll marry you, Boq. But…but why?"

"Why what?"

"Why didn't you tell me before that you loved me?"

"I…I wanted to make sure I loved you before I told you."

"Oh." There is no emotion in her voice.

"Why? Does that change your decision?"

"No! No, of course not!"

There's one more thing Boq wants to ask her, and he decides to just say it. What does he have to lose? "Is it okay if I kiss you?"

"I'd love if you did."

Boq puts his lips on Nessa's, and their kiss is the sweetest thing Boq has ever tasted.
