Angel looked around the hotel, wondering for the ten thousandth time when it had begun to feel like a home. Looking across the room at the pretty brunette and the six-month-old on her shoulder, he thought he knew.
When the Powers had given Angel his humanity back two years ago, he'd been lost at first, not sure what to do. Cordy had taken one look at him and knew. Knew what he was feeling. She'd taken his hand in hers and told of a love she didn't want to live without. He thought his newly beating heart would burst from happiness. They'd married a month later.
Only six month ago, Delaney Elizabeth had been born. She was the light of both their eyes. She was the embodiment of everything good and precious in their lives.
As if sensing his thoughts, Cordy stood and walked to where he was sitting. She dropped down beside him, gently transferring the infant from her shoulder to the bassinet at their side as she did so. "What are you thinking about?" she asked softly.
Angel smiled tenderly. "You. Delaney. Us."
Cordy lay her head on Angel's shoulder. "I thought that might be it." She threaded her fingers through his, gently caressing the gold band that circled his finger. "I love you."
"I love you, too, Cordy. So very much."
Angel pulled his wife into his arms and stretched out on the sofa with her. She turned in his arms, kissing him with such tenderness. "What did I do to deserve you?" she asked softly, one single tear escaping.
Angel gently brushed it away with the tip of his thumb. "The same thing I did to deserve you," he told her, answering her question.
"Survive years of hell. We just got what we deserved. Finally."
Cordelia smiled that smile he loved so much. "Each other."
Angel nodded. "Each other," he confirmed. "I love you with everything that I am or will ever be," he whispered.
"And I love you with all my soul," she answered back.
And with those words, they closed their eyes and joined their daughter in sleep.
