(A/N) This is my first fanfic! Based on I Waited by Bitter-Sweet Teardrops. Check it out! It's a bit angsty; made me want to cry. It's so well written. I loved it! This is a bit different, but I figured I'd mention her story because much of the plot is the same. This will not be a one-shot. I'll be adding more soon.

Rain cascaded down her bedroom window, overlooking the grounds of their modest house. She counted the streaks made by the rain; comparing their likeness to the salty tear-tracks running down her pale cheeks. Her unruly, auburn hair, pulled back into a messy pony tail, refused to keep strands from sticking to the fresh tears and hid her face from view.

Lily Potter sat quietly on her window seat, not daring to make a sound else the burning behind her eyes should betray her. A distant rumble of thunder triggered a new rush of silent tears. Her husband had left already.

No. He was not her husband. He shared the name, and a duller version of his likeness but the similarities end there. Laughter no longer filled his eyes when he spoke. Warmth no longer radiated off this man whom she did not recognize. His features didn't brighten when she entered a room.

Hell, his gravity-defying hair even lost its luster. How could the man that she loved so completely, disappear without a trace? This stranger can't be James. No. The James she knew died in the war. The James she loved died in the war.

As she picked up the sealed letter, Lily tried to remember. One last time, she had to remember the man she had fallen in love with all those years ago. Lily Potter closed her eyes…
