Booth spun around to notice a woman in a baseball jacket, Jeans and aviator shades smiling at him. She pulled off the sunnies revealing blue eyes.
"Oh my…is that really… Riley?" he asked. She smiled and looked down at the floor before her eyes met his. Neither of them moved. She finally spoke.
"Well do I get a hello, or a hug, or even the old hand shake?"
A broad smile crossed Booth's face as he hugged her. Brennan, Angela and Hodgins looked on curiously. The two finally parted.
"What are you doing here?" Booth asked.
"I was asked to assist in a case with the FBI!"
"That's Riley Stanford. The famous author of the 'Max Davidson' and 'Andy Blake' series." Brennan interrupted.
"Yeah I know her name, Bones. We went to school together, and then she went off to join the Navy, while I joined the Army. I can't believe this."
"So you're a scientist? 'Cause you sure as hell don't look like one."
"Oh and you do? No I'm an FBI special agent."
"Special? You know I actually get that." She smiled at him once more then walked over to greet Brennan.
"Tempe. It's nice to see you again. Oh and I love the new book." Riley and Brennan shook hands.
"You too, Riley. And thank-you. You're new Andy book is very well written yet again. You remember Angela, don't you?"
"Of course. Hi Miss Montenegro."
"You still remember that? Damn." Angela laughed.
"What are they talking 'bout?"
Cam walked in just as Brennan's phone rang and the caller ID said the call was directed from the Psychiatric hospital.
"Hello?" Brennan said putting it on speaker accidently speaker.
"It's Zack." A voice crackled over the machine.
"Sweetie? Is that really you?"
"Yes, Angela it is."
Cam walked out angrily and Riley followed. She sat down into her desk chair as Riley took a seat across from her.
"He was the Gormogons apprentice, Riley. He killed a man and then gave him to the Gormogon for dinner. Zack was like a brother to me."
"Do you remember when we first met?"
"Yeah. Brennan and Angela invited me out for drinks."
"And you and I were getting along fine. But then you found out I killed a man to save my brother two years before that and you wouldn't talk to me until you realized there was no other choice because it was either me or him."
"That's different." A tear rolled down Cams face. Sweets walked past the glass and stopped to see Riley hugging her. He knocked on the door softly. Both women looked up and Cam wiped running mascara from her cheek.
"Dr. Saroyan? Is everything okay?"
"Everything is fine Dr. Sweets."
"Zack called." Riley informed him. Cam shot a look at her.
"What did he say?"
"I don't know Sweets. I walked away before I could hear anything except…" Suddenly gunshots echoed through the lab. Sweets, Riley and Cam raced out and down the corridors. Booth lay on top of Brennan shielding her. Hodgins was helping Angela off the ground.
"Booth, you can get off me now." Brennan strained. He rolled off her and looked in her eyes.
"Are you okay?" He asked wearily
"I think you broke my ribs but besides that, yeah."
She sat up.
"Guys?" Zack was still on the phone.
"We're all okay." Angela said to him.
Riley was helping Booth and Brennan up when she asked, "Where did the shots come from?"
"They must have come from the car over there on the other side of the lab. It had a 9mm automatic in the trunk along with all the bullets. The heaters in here must have set them off. I'll go check." Hodgins headed towards the car.
Cam strode up to the phone.
"Cam? Hi!" She could hear him smiling on the other end.
