A/N: Post-The Truth Is Out There one-shot. My first Kate/Tony fic! Wahay! I hope you enjoy!

Kate stared into her shot glass. The amber liquid swirled as her hand shook minutely.

Tony noticed it.

"Kate," he began, but when she looked up at him he saw her eyes were sparkling with tears that she was trying to force back. Instead of speaking, he enfolded her into a tight hug. Kate tried to blink back her tears but for some reason she couldn't hold them back and the tears overflowed down her face and soaked into the shoulder of Tony's shirt. She pulled her and dashed her hand over her eyes to get rid of the tears.

"I'm sorry," she apologized.

"Why are you sorry?" Tony asked, surprised that the normally tough Kate was actually crying. And in front of him as well.

"For being… a wimp," Kate smiled wryly, and Tony head-slapped her lightly.

"Kate. You were held hostage. You're allowed to cry. No way are you being a wimp," Tony answered her, and she smiled back at him.

"Why are you being so nice?" she asked him, and he looked at her quizzically. "You're never nice. What do you want?"

"I don't want anything," DiNozzo lied. He did want something, and he wasn't about to tell her.

"Liar," she retorted. "Tell."

"No," he responded quickly. Too quickly.

"Aha! There is something. Now, tell me. Or else," she threatened.

"Or else, what?" Tony questioned, raising an eyebrow and smirking at her.

"I don't know, I'll think of something," she smirked back at him, a knowing smile on her face. Tony wondered if she was just playing him and in reality knew exactly what he wanted. He expected she probably did. She was Kate, for crying out loud.

Kate grabbed her shot glass and gulped the whole thing down, ignoring the burning feeling in her throat as the whiskey went down. Tony raised his eyebrows and downed his own.

"Do you want to go, now?" Kate asked him, and he eyed her warily.

"Sure, I'll drive," Tony decided and was surprised when Kate slipped her hand through his.

It was so out of character for Kate to seem this… vulnerable. It was understandable though, considering what had happened. And, he had to admit…

He liked her like this.

Kate pulled the passenger door shut behind her, and Tony started the ignition and soon they were cruising to Kate's house. McGee would probably have said something like, "How do you know where Kate lives?" to Tony, the naïve probie that he was.

They stayed in silence. It wasn't an awkward silence, more of a mutual quietness.

Tony brought his car to a halt outside Kate's apartment, and quickly shot around in record speeds to open her door for her. She smiled up at him. "Thanks, Tony."

He escorted her to her apartment door, and Kate unlocked the door and walked in.

Tony did not follow.

Kate cocked her head, looking at him and wondering why.

"Goodnight, Kate," Tony spoke courteously. Kate more forward swiftly and kissed him lightly on the lips before pulling back.

"Goodnight, Tony," she replied, before shutting the door and leaning against it, breathing heavily.

Tony's eyes were wide; had that actually just happened?

His lips tingled: it had.

He walked out to his car in a happy daze, oblivious to the events that were soon to unfold.
