"Hey Willow," Xander said, wrapping his arm around her waist and squeezing softly. "Penny for your thoughts?"
She looked up at him, shaking her head slightly allowing her red hair flying every which way. "Sorry 'bout that. You say something?" It was the wrong time to lose focus, but she had a lot on her mind these days. They all did.
"Just glad you're okay," he said, with that trademark smile of his that a younger Willow would have found irresistible. Now she found it simply charming, a reminder of times when their biggest concern was avoiding Cordelia's barbed remarks, not preventing yet another apocalypse. At one time, when they were younger, she thought about marrying him, raising a family in Sunnydale. It wasn't something she tended to think about anymore, seeing as how she had Tara, and now Kennedy. And considering the present state of Sunnydale, it wouldn't work out to raise a family there anyway, even if they wanted to. But in the end, they had each other's friendship and love, regardless of the bumps they had taken along the road, and they were better for it.
She looked back over at him, wrapped back up in his conversation with Buffy. "Xander?" she quietly asked, moving a strand of red hair behind one ear.
"I'm glad you're okay too."
