Maybe It's True
A/N: This one is dedicated to LenaGuffi who was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the Sheldon/Penny fic out there (I feel your pain!). This is just a short, fluffy piece that takes place right after "The Maternal Congruence". Kaley Cuoco was just too adorable when she was hungover and in sweats for me not to write something! lol Yeah, I know. I'm ridiculous. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy!
Title comes from the song "Two is Better than One" by Boys Like Girls feat. Taylor Swift. It's been stuck in my head lately.
Leonard stood in his bedroom doorway, looking in at his sleeping girlfriend. As soon as they had gotten home from the airport, she had stumbled straight into the bedroom, flopped down on his bed, and fallen asleep. He briefly considered stopping her, after all, it was her own fault she was hungover. But when he walked into the bedroom and saw her all curled up on top of the covers, her blonde hair messily splayed out on his pillows, his heart had jumped into his throat, and he froze. God, she was beautiful. He stood there amazed, watching the motions of her breathing, just visible beneath her baggy sweatshirt. There was no way he could bring himself to disturb her, so after a minute or so he finally turned around and left her to sleep.
That was several hours ago, though. Now he had just returned from picking up dinner, and it was about time Penny rejoined the land of the living. Leonard moved from the doorway and sat down on the bed. "Penny," he said. He gently shook her shoulder. "Penny, food's here. You need to get up." Penny mumbled something incoherently and curled further into herself. Leonard rolled his eyes. "Penny come on." He shook her shoulder a bit harder. "You need food. And if you don't get up now, you're going to be wide awake at 3 am, and I am not getting yelled at by Sheldon again." Penny groaned and tried to pull one of the pillows over her head, but Leonard grabbed it and held it just out of reach.
"Hey!" Penny exclaimed, voice cracking with sleep.
"Nope. Time to get up," Leonard said. Penny rolled over to glare at him.
"You're mean." Leonard leaned down and kissed her lightly.
"I let you sleep all afternoon. Now it's time for you to get up."
Penny continued to glare at him. Leonard rolled his eyes again and turned away for just a second when he felt something soft smack him rather forcefully in the head. He quickly turned back to see Penny clutching the other pillow in her hand while trying to bite down a grin. Leonard frowned and retaliated with his own pillow, and soon they were in a full-fledged war with pillows and laughter flying through the air. Eventually, Penny gained the upper-hand and managed to pin Leonard down to the bed.
"Ha!" she shouted triumphantly and grinned down at him. Leonard responded by tugging her down to kiss her soundly. It was just turning into a rather lovely make-out session when they were interrupted by Penny's stomach growling loudly. She pulled back and looked sheepishly down at Leonard. "So you said something about food?" Leonard laughed and shifted so he could get up off the bed. He turned back to Penny and held out his hand.
"Come on." Penny took his hand and let him pull her up so she was standing too. She grinned at him, and hand-in-hand, the two walked out to join the others in the living room.
"And what were you two doing?" Howard asked as they entered the room.
"Wouldn't you like to know," Penny said teasingly and winked back at Leonard. He smirked, and everyone settled down to eat.
Penny may be messy, loud, a bad driver, and at times, not show the best judgment when it comes to alcohol, but she was his, and Leonard wouldn't have it any other way. And hey, at least his mother approves of her now.
