Chapter 1: Like Father, Like Son

"Dean, hand me those shoes," John directed his seven-year-old from under the Impala.

"'Kay, Dad." Dean obediently carried the curved metal pieces over to his father.

"Thanks, son." John took the parts from the small offering hands and began fitting each into its designated spot.

Dean settled quietly nearby, handing his dad the tools he needed almost before he could ask for them. They didn't talk much, but Dean watched closely, soaking everything in like a sponge. When he got older, he would work on the 'Pala, too. He wanted to be just like his dad when he grew up.
