Spontaneous fic is spontaneous and not really that impressive. But it is spontaneous. And fluffy! Yay?

It is another night that ended in Dino's bed, too late to get up and do anything and too early to sleep.

Dino draws lazy circles on Squalo's chest with his index finger and sighs.

"We could have a happy ending, you know. Things don't have to be like this," he mutters softly.

Squalo looks down at him with a raised eyebrow, and scoffs. Dino frowns, and raises himself on his elbows to look him in the eye. "It's true, Squalo. Everyone deserves a happy ending; even people like you and I."

Squalo rolls his head to the side to break the eye contact. "Yeah right. Even if there were such a thing as a 'happy ending', I'm pretty goddamned sure I wouldn't get one. Wouldn't know what to do with it anyway."

Dino sighs, lowering himself down gently so that his lips lay softly against Squalo's jaw. "Sure you would. Happy endings don't just exist in fairy tales; they are what you make them into. It doesn't have to be sunshine and rainbows every day to be a happy ending- just an overall contentment with life. That's all a happy ending is," he says, gently brushing his lips down the pale neck to his collarbone.

Squalo eyes the blond head on his chest, frowning. "Who says I'm not content?"

Dino rolls his eyes. "If you were content, Squalo, we wouldn't be here. We wouldn't have these goddamned trysts, because we would be together. Or we wouldn't be together at all, but since we allways end up back here anyway I'd say that's not really the road to contentment."

Squalo says nothing, listening carefully to Dino, who sits up in the bed to look at the other seriously. "All I want is for us to be able to live with each other, or without. It's not like there's anything stopping us. What reason is there for us not to do this all the way, to have a real relationship?" he pleads, frustration welling behind his eyes.

"Lots of things." Squalo answers.

"But nothing important enough that we can't ignore it."

"But nothing we can't ignore." Squalo concedes, once again avoiding eye contact.

Dino frowns. "If you don't want it, just say so. If you don't actually want me, then you should just tell me-" His voice is cut off by the sound of a familiar electronic ringing. He sighs in frustration, rolling off of Squalo's lap onto the other side of the bed.

Squalo picks up the phone, looks at the caller ID contemplatively for a moment, and turns it off, tossing it aside and out of reach.

Dino looks at him in surprise for a moment- Squalo has never ignored one of Xanxus's calls before. He smiles.

"Looks like there's hope for our happy ending after all."

Squalo scoffs, rolling on top of Dino and silencing him with a kiss.
