Something short. Just an idea. No offense intended.

DISCLAIMER: I don't own Criminal Minds or its fantastic characters.

The day Derek Morgan had a heart attack

Derek Morgan had a diet rich in cholesterol. He would eat hamburgers, pizzas and French fries on a daily basis. Home made cooking meant going to his mom's house in Chicago, something he did only once or twice a year. He did a lot of exercise, but that wasn't enough to fight back the accumulation of fat cells offered by his daily greasy intake. After every meal, cholesterol was absorbed by the intestines into the blood circulation. LDL lipoprotein (bad cholesterol, that's it) deposited cholesterol on the artery walls, causing the formation of cholesterol plaque. Over time, cholesterol plaque could cause thickening of the artery walls and narrowing of the arteries.

But that's not what happened to Derek Morgan.

Derek Morgan had bad sleeping habits. Late nights and early mornings were not good for his body. He would get up early in the morning to crack a case, do paperwork or chase UNSUBS and would stay up at night to go dancing, have fun and chase love. Bad sleeping habits can decrease productivity and increase irritability and risks of health problems.

But that's not what happened to Derek Morgan.

Derek Morgan was under a lot of stress. He held an extremely stressful job, full of dangers and adventures. The depravity of mankind took a toll on him with the passing of the years. During stress or an emotionally charged situation, the heart beats faster. It requires more oxygenated blood flow to the muscle to maintain that beating. But if the channels by which the blood and oxygen flow to the heart are narrowed, not enough nutrients get to the heart muscle tissue and it suffers oxygen deficiency.

But that's not what happened to Derek Morgan.

Well, maybe.

The day Derek Morgan had a heart attack was the day he saw his best friend, his lover, his boy being stabbed to death by an UNSUB. That day, and in the same room where his kid's lifeless body lay, Derek's heart gave up. He knew he couldn't go on living in a world where the owner of his heart wasn't present.

Derek Morgan had a heart attack the day Spencer Reid breathed his last breath out. And that was the end for both of them.

I got this idea yesterday and I needed to write it. Now, I'll continue with my other story.

Review if you feel like it. Thanks for reading.
