Title: A Cry in the Night

Rating: K+

Disclaimer: I own nothing. I asked for Severus for Christmas, but Santa failed me once again, leaving a pot rack under the tree instead.

Hermione was pulled from a sound sleep by a piteous whimper.

Groping blindly for her wand and casting a Tempus, she was tempted to whimper herself.

Two hours.

She'd managed to sleep, uninterrupted, for two hours.

As if sensing her wakefulness, the cries became louder, reaching a volume where they roused her husband.

He did whimper. Well, she supposed he would argue that it was something more dignified, like a groan.

She nudged him slightly with her elbow.

"It's your turn," she rasped, eyes already fluttering closed.

"I don't see why I have to take part in this," he grumbled. "One of us should get some sleep, and you were the one that wanted one."

Hermione cracked one eye and glared at him.

He heaved himself out of bed with a loud sigh. "Alright, I'm going. Go back to sleep."

She decided to ignore the uncharitable things he was muttering as he stalked out of the room.

In another part of the house, their new puppy yipped happily when he heard his owner coming.

A/N: I don't think 'Tempus' is an actual canon spell, but in my happy little world, it tells the caster the current time. Hope everyone enjoyed this!
