Author's Note: 'Consistency' is one of several drabbles branching off the premise that Dr. Quinzel worked with another theme criminal before Joker. This scene would be after she's gone rogue.
He saw her picture in the Gotham Times one morning and actually did a double take. She'd changed names but it was the same off-kilter body, the same enthusiastic smile…just exaggerated a bit. Harley was waving at her photographer while Joker hurried away in the background.
Dry blood spread over skin like rust or fungus. Makeup smeared into hair, across cheeks, smudged eyes…but then he'd seen that look before. Harleen Quinzel wore black and red like a schizophrenic checkerboard. There were bells in her hair and ribbons at her throat.
Jonathan Crane looked, scoffed, and turned to the next page.
