Author Notes: Just wanted to write something sweet. A father/son moment between Carlisle and Edward. Sorry if Edward seems a bit out of character.

Disclaimer: I just borrow the characters to torture but I don't own them, sorry.

Edward's Fear

It was just Edward and Carlisle at home that gloomy Saturday afternoon. Everyone else was out hunting or shopping. Edward had decided to stay home and relish having thoughts to himself since Carlisle tried to think as little as possible to give Edward a break.

Shutting off the television, Edward went up to Carlisle's study and knocked on the door gently. He didn't have to wait long for Carlisle to allow him in.

"Come in, son." Came the soothing voice of his father. Edward walked in, shut the door behind him and went to the couch. He was hesitant. Edward wasn't the type of person to admit to something easily. Carlisle waited patiently until Edward was ready to open up.

Uncharacteristically, Edward bit his lower lip as he thought for a few moments. "If I tell you something, will you promise not to tell anyone." He hoped Alice would keep her mouth shut. If Emmett ever found out about what he was about to confess Edward would never hear the end of it.

"Of course, son." His father promised. He stood up and went over to his son, sitting besides him. Edward fiddled with his fingers. "Did you do something wrong?"

"No. I'm just… afraid of something…" He said quietly.

Carlisle waited for Edward to continue, but soon realized that he would have to prompt him to continued. It was time like this where Edward acted more like a 17-year-old boy. "What are you afraid of, Edward?" Carlisle asked.

"I'm afraid of the end of the world." He looked at his hands and would blush if he could. Carlisle cocked his head to the side and waited for more, but he didn't offer any more information on his fear.

"Son, how come you're afraid?" Carlisle asked. "Have you been watching those shows about the end of the world and Life After People?" Edward nodded. Carlisle had thought as much. "Son, someday, the world will end, but someday we might actually be able to travel to new worlds before that happens. Edward, don't concern yourself with such things."

"But, it is scary." Edward told him.

"Of course it's scary. It always is a scary thought to think that one day people wont be here, Earth will remain uninhabited, and one day the sun will go supernova. That is the way nature works. Don't think on it anymore. Don't watch those shows if they bother you, my boy."

Carlisle pulled the boy into a hug, rubbing his back in comforting circles. They were quiet for several long moments as the father comforted his son.

"Yes, son?"

"Thanks." Carlisle just planted a small kiss on Edward's forehead and ruffled his hair.

"Any time my boy." He stood up and went back to his desk as Edward made himself comfortable on the couch, pulling a throw blanket over him, though he didn't need it and snuggled in it. He closed his eyes and relaxed in the couch before drifting into a very relaxed state. This was as close to sleep as he could get.

The End.

End Notes: Hope you enjoyed it! I'm always making Edward "sleep" in most of my fics. It's just a thing I do. Please review!
