The halls were silent and he was glad for it, the dark nights suited him, and he didn't mind the time alone. It was time alone with his thoughts, away from the constant chatter of his inane students, especially those not from his house.
He focused his attention on his job, not only to protect from intruders but to catch students who thought it was fun to sneak out at night and cause trouble. Like Potter, he was too much like his arrogant father for Snape's taste. Though he did have a look of his mother, those eyes brought him back to times that were best left in the past.
Snape wrapped his cloak tighter around himself and headed down the main corridor up a flight of stairs towards the entrance. The sounds of his footsteps echoed on the stone floor. He wasn't ten feet from the main entrance. A movement in the shadows caught his eye. Turning on his heel he had a feeling Potter was somewhere nearby. He turned on his heel, intent on catching the boy in the act of rule breaking. Only to come face to face with the last person he'd thought he'd see in the halls of Hogwarts that night.
"Good evening snivelus," a graveled voice taunted.
"Sirius," He said cooly clutching his wand pointed straight at his long time foe.
"Drop the act I know you don't have it in you."
"You'd be wrong," Snape said with calculated calm.
"I'm here to ask you a favor Serverus."
Snape dropped his wand a millimeter, this had to be a trick.
"If something happens to me I want you to protect Harry for me."
"I'll see what I can do."
"Do it for Lilly."
Snape turned and walked away, "Only for her."
