When Fred imagined what it would be like to get married, she always saw the same thing. A big church, a white dress with an impossibly long train flowing behind her and the man she loved wearing a black tuxedo. As she walked down the aisle on her father's arm, her husband-to-be turned and met her eyes, his own eyes so full of love.
Fred sighed. But that's never going to happen to me, she thought sadly.
A knock sounded at her door. "Come in," she called.
A moment later, Wesley stepped inside and shut the door softly behind him.
"Hey, baby," he told her, softly kissing her.
"Hi yourself," she smiled. "This is a nice surprise. I didn't expect you until tonight."
"I have a question for you," he told her as he led her to the sofa.
Wesley handed her a small box, indicating she should open it. When she did, she gasped at what she saw inside. "I can't imagine a moment without you by my side. I love you with everything I am or will ever be. Will you marry me?"
With tears in her eyes, Fred nodded. "Yes, Wesley, yes!" Wesley slipped the one karat diamond solitaire onto her finger and pulled her into his arms, kissing his new fiancee.
"I love you, Fred."
"I love you, too, Wesley," she whispered, imagining her dream wedding once again and knowing it would become reality in the not-so-distant future.
