To breathe again
She ran to the top of the cliff. The gentle breeze that hit her skin felt like a hurricane at the top. Her toes curled as her body swayed back and forth slowly. Her eyes, filled with tears that her body no longer possessed, were fixed on the sea waves below. The sound of water colliding against rocks filled her ears as she sniffed softly. Images of their last time together flooded her mind, moving in rapid motion like a movie on fast-forward.
It was in this very same place. The sun hit his freckled skin, which was covered in sweat. His face was brightened by that certain after-sex glow. Her head rested against his chest as her naked figure molded against his. His hands were still tracing random patterns on her smooth skin, occasionally caressing her bum or the side of her breasts, leaving her a bit breathless again.
"I can feel you breathe," she whispered, chuckling softly as her head went up and down with each breath he took.
"I can only really breathe when we are together. Like this."
That day was just one of the many during the War that she wondered what she would do without him. What would happen if one of them died? And each time, the answer was the same: I just hope it's me first.
"Why? Why did you have to leave me?" Hermione whispered, looking up the sky.
A warm breeze, unlike the cold wind that was surrounding her before, wrapped around her. She closed her eyes, leaning into it. "Is that you, Fred?"
"I'm right here." His familiar voice reached her ears. Was she going insane?
Shaking her head, she opened them again, concentrating on her task. She was here for a reason, and she was determined to follow through. Lifting her foot from the ground, she lost balance as the wind blew strongly. She fell backwards and hit the ground with an uff.
"Don't do it." She heard it again. Hermione started sobbing uncontrollably as her arms wrapped around her knees while sitting on the grass.
"I have to!" she screamed to the sky. The roar of the waves was stronger as her decision made her focus and stop crying. Hermione was done with crying. It was all she had done since the day he had died, and she was tired of it just as much as she missed his touch. She shook her head stubbornly as she said softly, "I can't hear you breathe, Fred."
And with that, she was gone. In the hope of being reunited with the love that destiny had taken away from her. In the hope of feeling his touch under the warm sun once again. In the hope of feeling him breathe as they became one.
