Shards Of A Broken Hourglass

The scream echoes helplessly

Into the silence of the night

As the fire devours

And the dwelling is destroyed

Gleaming faintly amidst the embers

And dying flames

Are bones, charred and blackened

By the hands of Death

Barely noticable, and sprinkled with soot

The shards of a broken hourglass

Smashed and chipped

Lie upon the floor

The sands of time spilt,

Useless forever more

Their soft whiteness glitters

Untouched

By greedy flames

Time waits for no one

And marches steadily

Unwavering

No matter how hard you hold on

Or how fast you run to catch up

It escapes you and...

The hourglass shatters
