The Sheriff's gun went off.
At first, Booth didn't think it hit anything, then out of the corner of his eye, he saw Bones sink to the ground.
"Bones, are you okay?" He asked.
The Sheriff was getting into his car, dragging Lily with him.
"Bones, are you okay?!"
Still no answer.
Then, the car took off into the street, and the Sheriff dropped Lily onto the pavement, where she rolled to the side of the street.
Booth shot his gun four times, watching as the car swerved and ran into the curb.
He checked inside the cab.
The Sheriff was dead.
He turned around, expecting to see Bones there, but saw her kneeling on the curb, clutching her side.
He ran to her and pulled her hand away.
The bullet had hit her side, and blood was starting to spread across her shirt.
Quickly, Booth pulled out his cellphone and threw it to the husband.
"Call an ambulance"
Booth cradled Bones in his arms.
She would be okay.
At his party a few days later, Bones stood up and made a toast, making him feel like the luckiest man alive.
Afterwards, he was pulled to the side to sit at the bar with her.
SHe explain about Jared, and Booth knew she was right.
He took Jared outside.
"You have to stop Jared, you have to stop drinking"
"I carry my own water Seely, don't watch out for me"
"Jared, you're going to be like dad, and I don't want that to happen"
"Screw you Seely, you never even took a chance. You have that beautiful girl in front of you, and you don't even ask her out!"
"Leave her out of this"
Then, Jared was gone.
Booth walked over to the bus stop, punching it hard.
"Hey" It was Bones, holding a piece of cake.
"Bones, I need time"
"Time or space?"
He motioned for her to sit down next to him.
She smiled, and he noticed that she was beautiful, as always.
"You know, Jared told me that I never take chances"
"Well, as an FBI agent, i don't blame you"
Booth smiled, but there was something different about it.
"Here's one chance i'm going to take"
And he kissed her.
