Appa had left him over a year ago, to seek out the wild sky bison that they hoped still existed in remote wildernesses. Aang waited… and waited…
Then one spring day Appa returned, with a broken right horn and scarred left mid-foot, nudging a heavily pregnant bison cow through the air with him.
Immediately named Amma, she was smaller than Appa, and faster even in her gravid state. It took six weeks of patient coaxing before she'd let Aang get close enough to feed her peaches and cabbages by hand.
When six sky bison calves were born, the entire world rejoiced!
Author's Note: This post-series set of drabbles began with Appa, so it seemed fitting to go full circle and end it with Appa as well. My thanks to everyone who read and reviewed!
