A/N: I. Love. ALICE! So much so that I have decided to torture the world by writing a (mostly likely crappy) Fanfiction for it!

Hope you enjoy!

Glass Hearts

Chapter 1: Diana Grayson

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Hatter's static-filled voice asked Alice for the fourth time. She sighed into her cell phone, glancing about the street as she tried to find a number on the buildings.

"Yes, Hatter, I want to do this." She said, glancing down at the sheet of paper in her hands and then at the buildings.

"But-"

"Moving out of my mother's house is a good move for me. For us." She interrupted, as she looked at the sheet of paper in her hands again. She heard Hatter grumbling on the other end of the line, and smiled. He was learning not to argue with her as much.

Good.

It had been three months since Alice's adventures in Wonderland, and ever since then, she had spent almost every waking hour with Hatter, getting him settled into her world, and pursuing the strong feelings she harbored for the former tea shop owner. However, her mother had found it necessary to hover over her every chance she could get, causing tensions to rise between mother and daughter. This had continued until the explosive fight of just a few days previous, where her mother had threatened to kick her out, and Alice had decided it was time to do just that.

Casting one final glance around the street, Alice stopped, and threw her hands into the air in defeat.

"Fine. I give up." She said to whatever gods were listening. "I have no idea where I'm going."

"Great!" Hatter's voice said from the mouth of her cell phone, sounding relieved. "Now you see that this was a waste of time, and you can come back to the apartment and-"

"Um, hello?" called a voice from the alleyway. "Is someone there?" There was the sound of cloth rustling before a pale hand momentarily reached out from the shadows. "I could use a hand here."

"Hello?" Alice called, trying to identify the source of the voice through the gloom. "I gotta go, Hatter. I'll see you later."

"But-" Hatter began, but Alice hung up on him before he could protest.

"Hello? Are you alright?" Alice asked, moving cautiously towards the shadows to find a woman with dark auburn hair sitting on the ground, clutching her ankle with both hands, various shopping bags scattered on the ground around her.

"Um…No, not really." The woman said, her cheeks tinged faintly pink. "I, uh, tripped on my way back to my apartment, and my stupid cell phone decided that now would be a good time for it to die on me." She winced as she tried to stand, falling back to the ground in defeat. "I think I might have broken something."

"I'm not surprised." Alice said, glancing at the woman's lime green strappy heels. "Those things you have on your feet are deathtraps. How can you even walk in them?"

"I can walk in them just fine." She said distractedly, attempting to stand once more. Alice was instantly at her side, letting the woman lean on her shoulder as she slipped off the shoes that she wore. "But I was running late for a meeting with a potential roommate, and I wasn't watching where I was going…"

"Wait." Alice said, looking up from collecting the fallen shopping bags. "You aren't…Diana Grayson, are you?"

"Actually, I am." The woman—Diana—said in surprise. "But how did you-"

"I'm Alice Hamilton." Alice said. Diana's blue eyes widened.

"Well, this is a nudge from Fate if I ever saw one." She said, smiling brightly. "How bout, while we hobble down to my apartment, we discuss lease options, hmm?"
