A/N: I know this has been done a lot with various Hermione and somebody else pairings, but I wanted to try it myself. This takes place after the war and Fred never died. Enjoy and don't forget those reviews on your way out!

It was a beautiful summer day at The Burrow. The sun was shining brightly in the cloudless sky. It was perfect for flying, something most of the Weasley children and their friends were already doing. Standing by a tree, however, stood Fred, holding a broomstick in his hand. Across from him was Hermione, defiantly crossing her arms.

"...why not, 'Mione?"

"Because, Fred, I don't want to."

"Why don't you want to?"

"Because I don't, Fred. Just go fly your broom and leave me alone."

Fred looked at his girlfriend's hard face and knew there was something she wasn't telling him. "No. I'm not leaving until you tell me why you won't fly with me."

"I just...don't like flying."

"Why not...wait...no way. Are you SCARED?" Hermione nodded, looking at the grass in shame. "Really? Hermione Granger, brain of the Golden Trio, aid in the defeat of Voldemort, scared to fly a couple feet off the ground?"

Hermione blushed. "Go away, Fred. You go fly, I'll read my book."

"No. Come on, 'Mione. We are fixing your fear today."

"No, Fred, we're not. I refuse to get on that death trap."

"Hermione." Fred grabbed her shoulders. "Do you really think I would let anything happen to you?"

Hermione sniffed. "I suppose not."

"Exactly. Now come on. Get on. I'll be right behind you."

Hermione eyes the broom uneasily. "I can't."

"Hermione. Relax. You'll be fine. I won't let you get hurt."

"I promise."

Hermione took a deep breath and got on the broom, holding on with a death grip even though they weren't even off the ground. Fed got on behind her and squeezed her tightly, whispering in her ear, "It'll be okay" before putting his hands over top of hers and slowly kicking off. As soon as they were more than five feet off the ground, Hermione let out a shriek of terror.

"Let me down!" She cried.

"Nope." Fred smiled, popping the p.

"Frederick Gideon Weasley let me down this instant!"

"No. Hermione, ignore the height and look at the view. Look at what you can see from up here."

Hermione looked around at the view, like Fred had told her to. It really was quite beautiful. She could just see the muggle village off in the distance. Slowly she began to relax and started to enjoy the flight. Fred's arms around her helped too.

Fred sensed that she was starting to enjoy the flight and smiled. He knew that forcing her to fly would help her.

Finally they landed on the ground again. The stood up and Fred said,

"I told you I wouldn't let you get hurt."

"And thank you for that," Hermione said. "It wasn't that bad once I got used to it."

"You're welcome. I knew you'd like it if you just gave it a try."

Hermione leaned in and kissed Fred softly on the cheek. "Thank you. Now I have a book to go finish reading. I'll see you later." She waved and turned away from Fred, secretly thrilled to have conquered her fear at last.
