World 9~Falling for you.

I was stumbling through life. Hitting this and that as I went along the dark road in front of me. I was surviving but not living. With the fear of tripping, I hestistated. However I am able to confidently walk my life now. Not because you made the road clearer, but because I know you're there to catch me when I fall. My name is Sakura Mikan, and Natsume you're there right?

There they both were. Alone. Together. And yet it felt perfect.

Natsume cleared his throat. "I think they're gone." He said.

"Yeah. Thanks for that." Mikan replied. She shuffled slowly with her hands slightly extended. She kept going until she felt the wall against her fingertip. "Where are we right now?"

"Um...stairwell, level 2." Natsume replied. For a second there he had completely forgotten that Mikan couldn't see. Couldn't see where they were and couldn't see him. At that moment he was slightly thankful considering the sticky state he was in. He tugged lightly on his collar. Maybe it was the limited ventilation but Natsume started to feel hot.

"You have you be anywhere?" She asked.

"Come on then." Mikan remembered that the stairs always increased nearest to the doors. She shuffled back towards the direction that they entered from and started to ascend the stairs, using the rails for support.

"You're not kidnapping me now are you? I mean my trust level for you has decreased now that you're wanted by all the staffs of this hospital." Natsume joked. A slight chuckle escaped his mouth when he heard the girl give out a small 'hmp'. He then followed her.

They both climbed up 5 flights of stairs in complete silenced. Mikan was concentrating on counting the steps to make sure she didn't trip. Natsume was concentrating on Mikan, ready to catch her if she fell.

When they finally reached the eighth level of the hospital, Mikan sat down on the last step. Almost out of breath.

"You ok there?" Natsume asked. He bent down in front of her to examine her complexion. Her face was paler than the last time they met. Her eyes were still the same shade of hazel though. Natsume extended his hands to wipe away the sweat on her temple, but decided that it might be a little creepy.

"I'm...ok. Just never...climbed so before." She blew out. "You sound...fine?"

"I have a robot speaking for me right now, remember? Don't think machines have lungs," he said. Mikan gave a small smile. "Wait here I'll be right back."

Natsume got up and jogged to the floor below. He opened the door to the seventh floor and ran out. He looked left and right, scanning for a vending machine. Nothing. So he decided to go further down the corridor and with luck a shiny vending machine was there. He fumbled in his pocket for some change.

"Found her yet?" Asked a nurse standing behind Natsume.

"Nope. But you know Sakura-chan, she'll turn up eventually," replied the other nurse.

"Yeah, but I heard her condition this time round has worsen again. Guess that's why everyone is frantically looking for her."

A bottle of water fell out of the vending machine. The sudden thud broke Natsume from the nurses' conversation.

"Are they talking about polka dots?" He thought to himself. He quickly shoved some more coins into the machine, grabbed the second bottle of water and jogged back to the stairwell.

"Natsume?" A voiced asked the sounding footsteps.

"Who else knows that you're here polka dots?"

"Hey! Stop calling me that?!"

"Polka dots!"

Mikan puffed her cheeks out in annoyance and turned her head away. "Where did you run off to anyways?"

Natsume placed the cold bottle of water against Mikan's cheeks. The cold dews on the bottle startled Mikan for a minute. She grabbed hold of the bottle.

"He ran down to get me this," she thought to herself. A smile appeared on her face, one that she couldn't hold back.

"Here I'll open it." Natsume offered.

After taking gulps of their water, both sat there for a bit.

"So why are we here?" Natsume asked.

Mikan placed her hand in her right pocket and pulled out a key. "Here." She gave Natsume the key. "Open the door over there."

Natsume got up and opened the door. When he turned the knob, the door opened up to the roof of the hospital.

"Neat huh?" Mikan teased. She pulled herself up and walked out onto the roof. Natsume followed, closing the door behind them.

"I come here whenever the doctors put me in room lockdown," Mikan tilted her head back and extended her arms like she was flying. She took a deep breath. "Free at last!"

"If you come here often, wouldn't they know you're here then?" Natsume asked.

"Nope. They don't expect any of the patients to have access to the roof. Hotaru made me a copy of the key."

Mikan stuck out her tongue playfully and walked over to some crates in the corner. She fumbled around making sure the crate is properly standing before sitting down. "Come!"

Natsume walked over toward Mikan. He took a seat on the crate next to her. He looked forward. In front of them was a beautiful view of Tokyo.

"Beautiful isn't it?" Mikan asked. "I remember coming up here once before the accident. The view was amazing. I can only hope it's still as beautiful as the picture in my memory."

"I'm not sure what your memory is like, but the view is wonderful right now." Natsume told her. He wasn't lying. Up here, all the chaos of the busy city was gone. The faint sirens and car horns were like birds chirping in the woods.

"Hey? Is there a guitar case to your left?" Mikan questioned.

"Um..." Natsume looked to his left. Underneath a couple of boxes was a black guitar case. He grabbed it and gave it to her.

Mikan felt around the case, finding the buckle to unlock it. Once she felt the cool silver locks, she unbuckled them with a click. She grabbed the guitar out. Natsume helped by taking the case away and placing it in the ground in front of them.

"You play?" She asked.

"I'm not really good anymore. I've been practicing again for the past year. Hasn't been easy."

Mikan started strumming some random chords. Going off tune once in a while. "I like you Natsume."

Natsume almost fell off his crate. Surprised by the sudden confession from the girl. She kept strumming away while talking. "You're not like everyone else. You don't sugar-coat things. You don't treat me like a child. I like being around you."

Disappointment came to Natsume when she finished talking. She liked being around him. Does she like him then? She liked him...more than others. But why was he disappointed?

Not being able to stand the awkward atmosphere, he shuffled in his seat and cleared the invisible lump in his throat.

"May I?" he asked.

Mikan passed the guitar over to Natsume. He strummed the strings, tuning them to the correct sounds.

"You'll sing for me right?" Natsume asked.

"What?!" Mikan was surprised. He wanted her to sing? She hadn't sung in front of anyone but the kids ever since. Even then, it was only nursery rhymes. Her voice normally gets lost in the choir of children singing along. She suddenly felt embarrassing singing for him. Him only.

"Come on. I'll join in. You can't be worst then my robotic voice."

Natsume could see that she was hesitating. "I'll stop calling you polka dots!?"

This sparked interest for Mikan. "Alright, it'll be fun. What song?"

"You'll know." Natsume began to strum out a sweet memory. Mikan listened carefully to the melody. She knew the song.

The day we met,

Frozen I held my breath

Right from the start

I knew that I'd found a home for my heart

Beats fast.

Colours and promises

How to be brave?

How can I love when I'm afraid to fall

But watching you stand alone?

All of my doubt

Suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling don't be afraid I have loved you

For a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

Time stands still

Beauty in all she is

I will be brave

I will not let anything take away

What's standing in front of me

Every breath

Every hour has come to this

One step closer

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling don't be afraid I have loved you

For a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

I'll love you for a thousand more

One step closer

One step closer

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling don't be afraid I have loved you

For a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

I will love you a thousand years

Mikan smiled after Natsume strummed the last chord. She hadn't sung in a while, and it felt good.

Natsume didn't notice that he was staring at her. The sunshine was providing that glow to her, just like the last time in the room. Her hair was picked up with the small breeze that just blew. Her eyes. Her mouth, her nose. Natsume was noticing every small detail of the girl in front of him.

"Mikan..." He called her.

Mikan turned so she was facing him. She was still wearing her smile.

"...I think I'm falling for you."

"Do you hear that? It's my frozen heart starting again...for you"
