I wouldn't exactly label this along with the series of one-shot's about Alaina's experiences aboard the Enterprise because this is kind of right before all that, so this is a regular lonely one-shot about when Alaina's parents died. This takes place about two days after the accident, when some police officers are trying to talk to her and she is trying to deal with her emotions and the fact that her parents are dead (although she's not doing that very well). In the middle of all of this, her cousin James Kirk shows up. Of course we all know that she ends up in his custody and becomes Yeoman of the Enterprise and all that, but this is just a tid-bit of their first meeting after the accident. And maybe a bit of foreshadowing at the end...

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was trembling, scared and trying to deal with her uncontrollable emotions.

It wasn't working.

She'd been screaming at the police officers for the past ten minutes. But it was their fault. Did they actually expect her to react any differently?

"We're doing the best we can. We have investigators on the scene right now, and they won't rest until-"

She cut them off.

"I don't give a-"

The sharp tone cut through her rampage like a knife. She turned toward the voice, relief momentarily replacing the anger in her eyes, then anger quickly flowing back into place. She swiftly turned on her heel and stalked away.

James Kirk ran after her.

As she walked, tears filled her eyes. He caught up to her and grabbed her arm, but she yanked it away with such force that he took a step back in surprise.

"No!" She screamed.

"Ally, listen to me-"

"No!" She yelled again. She started to walk away again, but he took hold of both of her arms and she struggled to keep away from him, screaming the word no over and over again.

She squirmed, but he didn't let go. Her anger and anguish fueled her strength, and she furiously pulled.

She hit him, but he didn't let go. Her new allotted strength allowed her to strike him many times as she pulled and tugged to get away from him, tears streaming down her face.

But he didn't let go.

Her strength was running out. Exhausted, she finally resorted to sobbing and he pulled her into him, wrapping his arms around her as she sobbed into his chest. His shirt became increasingly wet with every shake of her shoulders, but he didn't let go.

From that moment on, he would never let go.
