Chapter 16 - For Better or Worse

Kelly slowly opened her eyes to find herself waking up in a hospital bed. She felt a sharp pain coming from her head. She felt the bandages on her head and began to question herself of what had happened.

"Mommy, you're awake!," cried Sammy as he ran towards Kelly from his chair.

"Hi honey," smiled Kelly.

"Are you ok?" asked Sammy.

"I don't know. Who is here with you?" asked Kelly.

"Aunt Silver and Brandon," replied Sammy.

"Where are they?" asked Kelly.

"They're outside talking to the doctor," replied Sammy.

"Ok," said Kelly as Sammy continues to look Kelly.

Silver and Brandon comes into the room.

"I thought I heard somebody talking in here," said Silver who goes and hugs Kelly.

"Hi...what happened?" asked Kelly.

"You ran into this guy's car and you hit your head," replied Silver.

"Oh. I'm so sorry for this. I didn't mean to cause trouble for everyone," said Kelly.

"It's ok. As long as you're alright," said Brandon who continues to look at Kelly.

Silver notices Brandon and Kelly and senses that they want to be alone.

"C'mon Sammy. Let's go get something to eat," said Silver.

"Ok," said Sammy who gives Kelly a hug.

"Bye honey," said Kelly smiling as Sammy walks away with Silver.

Kelly turns and looks at Brandon. Brandon continues to look at Kelly.

"Hi," said Kelly.

Brandon doesn't answer and looks at Kelly in the hospital bed. He pulls up a chair and sits next to her.

"Don't you ever scare me like that again," said Brandon.

"I'm sorry," said Kelly.

"When I got back to the hotel, I got your messages," said Brandon.

"Oh," said Kelly.

"I didn't know you were that desperate to see me," said Brandon.

"I was just trying to make everyone alright between us again," said Kelly.

"Why did you come to the hotel? Why didn't you just call me?" asked Brandon.

"Brandon, if you haven't notice, I called you over sixty times and you never called me back. I wanted to talk to you in person and you shut me out," replied Kelly.

"Ok. You got a point there. I'm sorry for not calling you back. But I'm here now and I'm listening," said Brandon.

"Brandon, I just wanted you to know that I'm truly sorry. If I can go back and change things, I would. But I can't," said Kelly.

"Does Dylan know?" asked Brandon.

"No," replied Kelly.

"I still can't get over how little faith you have in me," said Brandon.

"Brandon, I do have faith in you. I was with Dylan at the time. I really thought the child was his," said Kelly.

"Why didn't you check to make sure?" asked Brandon.

"I was scare that it may have ruined things with me and Dylan," replied Kelly.

"Well, the jokes on you because Dylan's not here," said Brandon.

Kelly looks down, disappointed. Brandon notices.

"Kel, I'm sorry...I didn't mean it like that," said Brandon who reaches for Kelly's hand.

"No, it's true. You're right. I only have myself to blame," said Kelly as she holds Brandon's hand.

"Still, I know that your situation with Dylan wasn't your fault," said Brandon.

"I just thought you didn't want me as the father," added Brandon.

"I do. I know that if I found out that you're the father, you would come back to L.A. immediately. But seeing how happy you were with your career and how much you sacrificed when we were together, I didn't want to hold you back," said Kelly.

"So did you get what you wanted?" asked Brandon.

"No," replied Kelly who starts to cry a little bit.

"Kelly, don't worry. I'll be here for Sammy no matter what happens," said Brandon.

Kelly pauses for a moment.

"You don't get it, do you?" asked Kelly.

"Get what?" replied Brandon.

"I did those things for us," replied Kelly.

Brandon pauses for a moment.

"I don't know what to say" said Brandon.

"Say you'll give me another chance," said Kelly.

"I want to," replied Brandon.

Kelly smiles at Brandon and he does the same.

"But I think I just need some time to figure this thing out," said Brandon.

"Ok," said Kelly disappointed.

"Even before you told me about Sammy, we agreed to take it slow, remember?" asked Brandon.

"I remember," replied Kelly.

"So even though I admire your persistence, I am asking you to please stop trying so hard to prove yourself to me...because you don't have to," said Brandon.

"I don't want to see you get hurt," added Brandon.

"Ok," said Kelly who stays quiet.

"But that doesn't mean I wasn't flattered," smiled Brandon at Kelly.

"By what?" asked Kelly who smiles.

"I particularly like all the phone calls that you mention all the good times we had in the past. I also love that picture that came with my lunch," replied Brandon.

"Those are some of my favorite moments too. I'm glad you like them," said Kelly.

"Are we going to be ok?" asked Kelly.

"I hope so...I think it's just going to take some time," replied Brandon.

"I'll wait for you, Brandon," said Kelly looking at Brandon.

Brandon looks at Kelly and goes and kisses her.

"Mmm..what was that for?" asked Kelly smiling.

"To show you that you don't have to wait alone," replied Brandon smiling back at Kelly.

"Good," said Kelly.

The doctor comes into the room.

"Well, I see my patient is finally awake," said the doctor coming into the room.

"Hi doctor. This is Brandon," said Kelly introducing Brandon.

"Hey doc," said Brandon.

"Hello Kelly. Hello Brandon. My name is Dr. Siegel. Dr. Lambert filled me in on your condition after you were admitted last night," said Dr. Siegel.

"Am I going to be alright?" asked Kelly.

"You'll be fine. I think you just slammed your forehead onto the steering wheel too hard. You should be out of there by tonight," said Dr. Siegel.

"I'll check on you later," added Dr. Siegel.

"Thanks," said Kelly.

Dr. Siegel leaves.

"Kel, I gotta get to work. But if you want, I can drive you home tonight," said Brandon.

"Thanks. I can't wait," smiled Kelly.

"Have a good day," added Kelly.

"Thanks. You too," said Brandon.

"I'll try," smiled Kelly.

"Bye," said Brandon.

"Bye," said Kelly.

Silver comes back in with Sammy.

"So, what happened?" asked Silver.

Kelly just smiled.

"Oh, so I see that this went very well," smiled Silver.

"It's a start. At least he's talking to me again. He said he's going to pick me up later," said Kelly.

"Good for you," said Silver.

"Thanks," said Kelly.

"Look at the time, I gotta go or else I'll be late for school," said Silver.

"Ok, thanks for everything," said Kelly.

"No problem," said Silver.

"Bye mommy," said Sammy who hugs and kisses Kelly.

"Bye honey. I'll see you later tonight," said Kelly.

"Ok," smiled Sammy.

Silver and Sammy leave the room.

Brandon went to work a little happier and calmer that morning. He wasn't sure where his relationship with Kelly is going but he is just glad that it's progressing nicely.

He sat down at his desk in his office and noticed the writing sample that Lauren had given her the other day. Even though he had forgotten about it, he promised her that he would read it. Even though they didn't discuss anything about the job, Brandon valued what Lauren had told him about her life as a single mother. It had given Brandon a new perspective on his situation with Kelly. As Brandon read Lauren's article, a smile comes on his face.

When Brandon finished reading the article, he reached for the phone and dialed a number. We only hear his side of the conversation.

"Hi, is this Lauren?" asked Brandon.

"Hi Lauren, this is Brandon Walsh from the New York Chronicle. How are you?" asked Brandon.

"Yes, I'm good. I just finished reading your article and I was wondering if you would like to talk about the job over lunch," said Brandon.

"Yes, I'm serious," said Brandon.

"Ok. Great. Are you busy today?" asked Brandon.

"No, tomorrow at noon is fine," said Brandon.

"Ok, I'll see you then. Bye," said Brandon.

After work, Brandon drove back to the hospital to pick up Kelly.

When Brandon walked into Kelly's room with flowers, she was already dressed and ready to go. Her bandages are off showing a slight bump on her head.

"Hey," said Brandon.

"Hi," said Kelly smiling.

"Are you ok?" asked Brandon.

"Yeah. The doctor told me to take it easy for a bit but I should be fine," replied Kelly.

"Good...ready to go?" asked Brandon.

"Yeah, let's go," replied Kelly.

"Do you need to sign out?" asked Brandon.

"Already did," replied Kelly.

"Good," said Brandon.

They continue to talk as they walk out together.

"How was your day?" asked Kelly.

"Ok. I'm still trying to adjust to the fact that I'm the boss," replied Brandon.

"You'll do fine," said Kelly.

"Thanks," said Brandon.

As they head to the car, Brandon opens the door for Kelly.

"Thank you," said Kelly as she gets in the car.

"Sure," said Brandon as he gets in the car.

"You know Brandon, I never noticed your car," said Kelly.

"What about it?" asked Brandon.

"I didn't know you drive a Corvette," replied Kelly.

"I don't. It's Steve's. He loaned it to me," said Brandon as he starts driving.

"I didn't know you guys got together," said Kelly.

"Yeah, he picked me up from the airport and we and Janet had dinner in Santa Cruz," said Brandon.

"I haven't spoken to Steve or Janet in a long time. How are they doing?" asked Kelly.

"Fine. They're expecting another baby," replied Brandon.

"Really? Oh, I should really call them," said Kelly.

"I'm surprised you haven't since you guys live so close," said Brandon.

"It's just that they have always had good news to share and I'm always the one who has nothing," said Kelly.

"You can tell them that I may be Sammy's father," said Brandon.

"Brandon," smiled Kelly.

"I'm just kidding," smiled Brandon at Kelly.

Kelly smiles.

"I missed this," said Kelly.

"What?" asked Brandon.

"," replied Kelly.

"That's what friends do," said Brandon.

"You know what else friends do?" asked Kelly.

"What?" asked Brandon.

"Favors," replied Kelly.

"Can you be a little more specific?" asked Brandon.

"Sure. A police officer came by the hospital today to do a report about the accident. He also told me that my car was totaled. So I was wondering if you can give me a ride to and from work," said Kelly.

"I'll be glad to," said Brandon.

"Really? You don't mind?" asked Kelly.

"No. This way, I'll get to see you every day," replied Brandon.

"Thanks," smiled Kelly.

"You're welcome. I'm just glad you're alright," said Brandon.

"I am. Thanks to you," said Kelly.

"What did I do? I wasn't the one who brought you to the hospital," said Brandon.

"I'm not talking about the accident," said Kelly.

Kelly smiles at Brandon.

"You're welcome," said Brandon smiling back at Kelly.

"If it wasn't for me being so arrogant, you wouldn't have been hurt," added Brandon.

"It's ok. If I had told you, we probably wouldn't have lost so much time," said Kelly looking at Brandon.

"We're going to get through this," said Brandon.

"Thank you," said Kelly looking at Brandon.

They pulled up at Kelly's house.

"Well, thanks for the ride, Brandon," said Kelly.

"You're welcome. Are you going to work tomorrow?" asked Brandon.

"Yeah," replied Kelly.

"Ok, so I'll be by to pick you up around 7:30?" asked Brandon.

"Sure...thanks," replied Kelly.

"No problem," said Brandon.

"Would you like to come in for dinner?" asked Kelly.

"I don't know. I don't want to impose," replied Brandon.

"You're not. It would mean a lot to everyone," said Kelly smiling at Brandon.

"In that case, sure," said Brandon smiling at Kelly.

Brandon and Kelly walk into the house.

"Hi," said Kelly as she opened the door.

"Hey," said Silver as she sees Brandon and Kelly walking in.

"Mommy," said Sammy as he runs towards Kelly.

"Hey honey," said Kelly who hugs and kisses Sammy.

"Brandon, are you staying for dinner?" asked Sammy.

"I sure am, Sammy. Your mom invited me and somehow I just can't say no," said Brandon.

"Good," said Sammy.

Kelly smiles at Brandon.

"C'mon Sammy. Let's go wash up for dinner," said Silver as she takes Sammy to the bathroom.

"Would you like something to drink?" asked Kelly.

"Sure, water would be great...I'll get it," replied Brandon.

"No, that's fine. You're our guest," said Kelly.

"Kel, shouldn't you be lying down?" asked Brandon.

"Brandon, I'm fine. Please don't try to mother me," replied Kelly.

"Gee, I thought that was Silver's job," joked Brandon.

"Very funny," smiled Kelly.

"Have a seat," added Kelly.

"Thanks," said Brandon as they both take a seat.

Silver and Sammy come back and they all have dinner.

Later that night, Kelly gets out of her room to see Brandon reading Sammy a goodnight story in his room. She smiles.

"And the bear said, I'll always be here for you," read Brandon.

Brandon closes the book and sees Sammy is asleep. He slowly gets up from his chair and turns off the lights. As he walks out and closes Sammy's door, he sees Kelly looking was looking them from her bedroom.

"I see somebody's getting a head start to being a great dad," smiled Kelly.

"I'm just trying to play catch up. He's great," said Brandon as he walks toward Kelly.

"Hopefully, he'll be even better once he'll have you in his life," said Kelly.

"Oh, I don't know about that. I think if he's great, it's because of you," said Brandon.

"Thanks but it was very difficult in the beginning," said Kelly.

"I wish I could've been there," said Brandon.

"I know. Me too," said Kelly.

"So, do you care to give me a few pointers about raising a child?" asked Brandon.

"You'll be fine. I did the hard parts for you already," replied Kelly.

"Still, I wouldn't mind if you give me some lessons, mom," said Brandon.

"I don't mind at all. Anytime," said Kelly.

"Thanks," said Brandon.

"You're welcome," said Kelly.

Brandon and Kelly just look at each other for a moment.

"So I'll see you tomorrow?" asked Brandon.

"Yeah, are you leaving already?" asked Kelly.

"Yeah, it's getting late. I should get going. I got to wake up earlier," said Brandon.

"Sorry about this, Brandon. If it's too much trouble for you, I could just take the bus," said Kelly.

"Don't be silly. I want to," said Brandon.

"Ok. Thanks," said Kelly.

"You know you're welcome to stay the night if you want to," smiled Kelly.

Brandon gives Kelly a weird look.

"I meant in our guest bedroom, Brandon," said Kelly.

"Oh...that's ok. I think it'll be better if I go back home," said Brandon.

"Ok. Thanks for staying for dinner," said Kelly a little disappointed.

"Thanks for having me," said Brandon as they walk out the door.

"Just to let you know, I'm not going to let you go so easily next time," smiled Kelly.

"Thanks. I'll remember that," smiled Brandon.

"It's so nice and quiet outside," said Kelly.

Brandon turns and looks at Kelly.

"Yes, it sure is," said Brandon.

"In a way, it's kind of romantic," said Kelly.

Brandon smiles at Kelly and walked towards her. They stared into each other's eyes. Brandon leans in and gives Kelly a quick kiss on the lips.

"Good night," said Brandon.

"Good night, Brandon," said Kelly as she watches Brandon walk to his car.

Brandon was not used to waking up so early in the morning. But he forced himself out of bed after his alarm ranged at 6am. He showered, got dressed, and drove to get breakfast for everyone. He arrived at Kelly's house around 7:15am.

Brandon rings the doorbell. There is no reply. He peeled inside the house to see the lights are on. Brandon rings the door bell again.

"Coming," said Kelly, who is still not dressed rushes to the door.

"Hi Brandon," said Kelly opening the door.

"Hey Kel," said Brandon.

"Sorry for the wait. I'm a mess this morning. I overslept and I'm not even dressed yet," said Kelly.

"No problem, I'll wait," said Brandon.

"Thank you. I'll be out as soon as possible," said Kelly running to her bedroom.

"Take your time," said Brandon.

Silver walks in and sees Brandon.

"Good morning Brandon," said Silver.

"Good morning Silver. Care for some breakfast?" asked Brandon.

"Sure. Whatchagot?" asked Silver.

"Bagels, pastries, and help yourself," replied Brandon.

"Ooo...don't mind if I do," said Silver as she pigs in and sits down.

"So how does it feel to have to drive carpool?" asked Silver.

"What's the big deal?" asked Brandon.

"Nothing. I just get the feeling that you're trying to impress Kelly," smiled Silver.

"I'm just being a good friend. Besides, what's wrong with trying to impress her?" asked Brandon.

"What's wrong is that she throws herself at you and you keep rejecting her," replied Silver.

"Silver, Kelly and I agreed to wait," said Brandon.

"Wait for what? You know that you guys are eventually gonna get together. Why delay it?" asked Silver.

"We want to make sure that this is what we both want," replied Brandon.

"I hope you're right because I think you two deserve each other," said Silver.

"Thanks. I think so too," said Brandon.

Kelly comes out of her bedroom dressed.

"Think so too about what?" asked Kelly.

"That ummm...if we don't leave right now, we're going to be late," replied Brandon.

"Well, I'm ready. Silver you're ready?" asked Kelly.

"Yes," replied Silver.

"Sammy, we're going," said Kelly loudly.

Sammy comes out of his bedroom.

"Hi Brandon," said Sammy.

"Hi Sammy. Breakfast?" asked Brandon.

"Ok," said Sammy.

"No honey, we don't have time. We'll eat it in the car," said Kelly as she rushes everyone outside.

They all pack into the corvette.

"Thanks again for doing this, Brandon," said Kelly.

"No problem. It's like we're one big happy family," smiled Brandon.

"That's a good way of putting it," smiled Kelly.

They dropped Sammy off at daycare and arrived at West Beverly High.

"Thanks Brandon," said Silver as she gets out of the car.

"You're welcome...Have a good day," said Brandon.

"You too," said Silver as she walks towards the building.

"Brandon, I'm sure my car will be ready in a week or two," said Kelly.

"Kel, it's fine. I'm happy to do this," said Brandon.

"Thanks," said Kelly as she leans in and kiss Brandon.

"You're welcome," smiled Brandon.

Kelly smiled back and gets out of the car.

"I'll come by around 4," said Brandon.

"Ok. Bye," said Kelly.

"Bye," said Brandon as he watches Kelly walks towards the building.

It is lunchtime and Kelly is sitting at her desk eating a salad. Being so lonely, she thought it would be a nice idea to have lunch with Brandon over the phone. She tried calling his direct line at work but there was no answer. She then tried calling his cell phone but it went directly into voicemail. Kelly decided to try one more time by calling the office line.

"Hello, New York Chronicle, how may I help you?" asked Sheryl.

"Hey Sheryl, it's Kelly. Is Brandon there?" asked Kelly.

"Hey Kelly. No, Mr. Walsh is not here. He stepped out for lunch," replied Sheryl.

"Oh, ok...can you tell him that I called?" asked Kelly disappointed.

"Sure Kelly. Is there anything else?" asked Sheryl.

"No, thanks Sheryl, bye" replied Kelly.

"Bye Kelly," said Sheryl.

Kelly continued to sit there and as she eats her lunch alone.

We see Brandon and Lauren having lunch at a restaurant.

"Thanks for meeting me again," said Brandon.

"You're welcome," said Lauren.

"So, how are the kids?" asked Brandon.

"They're fine. I got them into a really good daycare center. So, I am definitely motivated to start working again," replied Lauren.

"Good. I read your article the other day. It's very good," said Brandon.

"Thank you...what did you like about it?" asked Lauren.

"It's the way you open up about yourself. I like that you use a lot of detail and that really makes me understand what you went through," replied Brandon.

"Well, I don't know about that but thanks," said Lauren.

"Don't be modest. It's definitely one of the best things I've ever read," smiled Brandon.

", have you hired anyone yet?" asked Lauren.

"That is, If you don't mind telling me…," added Lauren.

"No, not yet, but I'm going to choose someone soon," replied Brandon.

"Do you think I still have a good chance?" asked Lauren.

"Definitely," replied Brandon looking at Lauren.

"Do you take all your applicants out for lunch?" asked Lauren.

"No, actually there was another reason why I wanted to talk to you," replied Brandon.

"What is it?" asked Lauren.

"I need your advice on a situation that I'm in," replied Brandon.

"What kind of situation?" asked Lauren with a worried look.

"I recently found out that I may have a son," replied Brandon.

"I thought you told me that you already have a son," said Lauren confused.

"This is the same son. My ex-girlfriend had him five years ago. And all this time, I thought it was with somebody else but now she tells me that I may be the father," explained Brandon.

"Why did she wait all this time to tell you?" asked Lauren.

"Well, she claims that she just assumed it was somebody else's until now," replied Brandon.

"Do you believe her?" asked Lauren.

"I want to. I know that she's sorry," replied Brandon.

"What's her name?" asked Lauren.

"Kelly," replied Brandon.

"And what's your son's name?" asked Lauren.

"Sammy," replied Brandon.

"Well, I see you're in a difficult situation. Is that why you asked me all those personal questions last time?" asked Lauren.

"Yeah, sorry about that," replied Brandon.

"It's ok. I'm glad to help in any way I can," said Lauren.

"Thanks," said Brandon.

"So do you still love her?" asked Lauren.

"Yes. Even though I'm mad, I can't help but still love her," replied Brandon.

"Sounds like you already made up your mind, what do you need me for?" asked Lauren.

"I just don't know how Sammy's going to react. I'm just scare that he's going to hate me for not being there all this time," said Brandon.

"If he loves you, he'll forgive you in time," said Lauren.

"Will your kids forgive their father if he comes back?" asked Brandon.

"It's hard to say but I wouldn't put it pass them. Anything's possible," replied Lauren.

"There's also a part of me that's afraid that Kelly only wants to be with me because I might be the father," said Brandon.

"Brandon, you just got to ask yourself, whether it's worth it to take that risk or not," said Lauren.

"Would you take your ex-husband back?" asked Brandon.

"I think I'm over him. Before, I wanted him back because I was lonely and I wanted someone to love me," said Lauren.

"That's what I'm afraid of," said Brandon.

"Look, I don't know Kelly. You do. Trust your heart, Brandon," said Lauren.

"Thanks," said Brandon.

"So, what are you going to do?" asked Lauren.

"I don't know. I'm trying to take it slow and think things over but she's really tempting me to get back together with her," replied Brandon.

"Don't be pressured. Just explain to her that you need time. If she loves you, she'll accept that," said Lauren.

"Yeah, but I also don't want her think like I'm leading her on," said Brandon.

"Just be honest, Brandon," said Lauren.

"You're right. Thank you," said Brandon.

"Thank you for lunch," smiled Lauren.

"It's the least I could do. You gave me some really good advice," said Brandon smiling at Lauren.

Just before 4pm, Brandon arrived at West Beverly to pick up Kelly.

"Hey Kel," said Brandon.

"Hey Brandon. I'll be ready in one sec," said Kelly.

"Ok," said Brandon.

"How was your day?" asked Kelly who is packing up to leave.

"Good; yours?" asked Brandon.

"Fine...I tried calling you during lunch," said Kelly.

"Oh, I went out to lunch with someone," said Brandon.

"Oh, with who?" asked Kelly.

"Why do you need to know that?" asked Brandon.

"No reason. I'm just curious," replied Kelly.

"Just a job applicant," said Brandon.

"You take your applicants to lunch?" asked Kelly.

"Some of them; is there something wrong with that?" asked Brandon.

"No. Are you ok?" asked Kelly.

"I'm fine. I just don't like being interrogated," replied Brandon.

"Brandon, I wasn't interrogating you. I was just asking how your day was. And apparently that was a big mistake," said Kelly.

"Fine, let's just go," said Brandon.

"Fine," said Kelly as they walk out together mad.

During the ride to Kelly's, neither of them spoke to each other.

They arrive at Kelly's while still mad at each other.

"Thanks for the ride," said Kelly mad.

"Kel, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have treated you like that back there. I just have a lot on my mind," said Brandon.

"It's ok. Do you want to talk about it inside?" asked Kelly.

Brandon looked at Kelly. He wanted to tell her that things are moving too fast and that seeing her everyday made it difficult for him to concentrate. He wanted to tell her that he needed some time apart to think. But as he looked into her eyes, he couldn't. Even though he wanted to be alone at the moment, he couldn't tell her because by doing so, he might lose her again.

"No, I'd rather not" replied Brandon.

"You sure? We could keep each other company," smiled Kelly.

"Thanks but I think I just need to be by myself," replied Brandon.

"Ok. Call me if you need me," said Kelly disappointed.

"I will. I'll see you on Monday," said Brandon.

"Ok. Bye," said Kelly.

"Bye Kelly," said Brandon as she gets out of the car.

Kelly looks on as she watches Brandon drives away.

It's the weekend and we see Brandon talking to Nat at the Peach Pit.

"Brando, the last thing you want to do is shut her out," said Nat.

"I know. I just need some time to think and she's just not giving me the space I need," said Brandon.

"Did you tell her that?" asked Nat.

"I started to but I don't want her to get the wrong idea," replied Brandon.

"If you don't mind me asking, what did she try to do?" asked Nat.

"She keeps on inviting me to dinner and calling to check up on me. I'm also driving her to and from work," replied Brandon.

"What's wrong with that? She's just being a good friend," asked Nat.

"It's a little more than that," replied Brandon.

"How do you really feel about her?" asked Nat.

"I love her. I just think that this is moving a little too fast for me right now," replied Brandon.

"Well, you're not gonna get anywhere by avoiding her," said Nat.

"I wish that it was that easy to avoid her," said Brandon.

"It's just hard to resist her sometimes," added Brandon.

Lauren comes in the Peach Pit. She doesn't notice Brandon at first.

"Lauren, hey," said Nat.

"Lauren?" asked Brandon.

"Hey Nat," said Lauren come over and sitting next to Brandon.

"Hey Brandon. What a small world," said Lauren.

"Hey, I didn't know you come here," said Brandon smiling.

"Yeah, I come here once in a while," said Lauren.

"You two know each other?" asked Nat.

"Yeah. Lauren's actually interviewing with me for a job at the Chronicle," replied Brandon.

"Well, Lauren, I hope you get the job because Brandon here is the best," said Nat.

"Thanks Nat, but that's not necessary," said Brandon feeling modest.

"I'm just telling the truth," said Nat as he walks away.

"So, are you here by yourself?" asked Lauren.

"Yup. Where are you kids?" asked Brandon.

"They're spending the weekend with my parents. So, this is my so-called day off," replied Lauren.

"That's good," said Brandon.

"How's your son?...if you don't mind me asking," asked Lauren.

"Fine. He still doesn't know yet," replied Brandon.

"Have you spoken to Kelly?" asked Lauren.

"You know what? I think I talked too much about Kelly with you (and with everyone). Let's seriously talk about the job," replied Brandon.

"Ok. If you want to," said Lauren.

"I do," smiled Brandon.

As they continue talking, Kelly walks towards the Peach Pit about to go in when she sees Brandon talking to Lauren. She sees that they are laughing to each other's conversations. She stands there for a moment before turning around and leave.

Coming Next – Kelly and Lauren meet.
