In the beginning…

... Mediterranean Oasis 305 BC …

//There's no time for us
There's no place for us

Daniel was headed home to his Immortal wife, Madera. He was glad the fight had gone well, and he was ready to come home.

As he reached their secluded thatch dwelling along the riverbank, Daniel noticed that he could not feel her presence. But he did not think anything of it since she liked to go hunting sometimes for their dinner.

//What is this thing that builds our dreams
Yet slips away from us...

As he reached the perimeter to their home, he noticed the disheveled appearance that their place never had.

"Madera!" he called out, hoping she was within hearing distance...

//Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?

"Madera!" he called again.

But there was no answer.

//There's no chance for us
It's all decided for us

He reached out with his Quickening like Agamemnon had taught him. He extended the range of his senses, but Daniel could not sense any Immortal nearby.

Looking around to get a finer detail of what was going on; Daniel noticed signs of a battle.

//This world has only one sweet moment
Set aside for us...

Daniel's heart sped up in his chest as he followed the signs of battle.

The battle separated at one point, and he could tell she had taken off running and the larger footprints had taken off after her.

//Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?

Daniel stumbled as he ran to follow the footprints, which took him to one of the out buildings they used as a barn.

Then, he flung open the door and noticed there was a failed attempt to barricade from the inside.

//Who dares to love forever?
Oo-ooh When love must die.

Then he saw a body, obscured from view by one of the stalls. The small body lay half in and half out of the open stall.

Daniel ran to her side hoping that whoever had attacked her had just killed her enough for her to come back.

//But touch my tears
With your lips

As he reached her side, he realized there was no head.

A ragged, inhuman cry left Daniel's lips as he fell to his knees in defeat.

//Touch my world
With your fingertips

He grabbed her hand helplessly, willing her death to not be so, and powerful sobs wracked his body.

He was a broken man.

//And we can have forever
And we can love forever

Daniel went to the vegetable garden his wife loved so much. Sobbing, he dug using his bare hands, he dug for what seemed a long time.

He buried his wife's headless body where she had loved to be most.

//Forever is our today...

It was the most difficult task he had ever done. It had sapped him of all will to live.

Deep in his heart, Daniel snapped.

//Who waits forever anyway?//

The end and the beginning.

More to come…
