Hello, everybody! It's been a while since I wrote a good old AliceXHatter one-shot, and this one hit me like a ton of bricks, so I had to write it. It's very sweet and kinda short, and totally AliceXHatter! (Of course, all the best stories are.)
Disclaimer: I own nothing. (Not even Hatter...he belongs to Alice. *Sniff* C'mon, Hatter fan-girls. We all must admit it.)
"Tarrant?" Alice Hightop looked at herself in the looking glass in the room she and her husband shared.
"Yes, love?" the Hatter came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "What is it?"
"I think I'm losing my muchness," she frowned, examining her face in the glass.
"What?" Tarrant looked into her eyes in the mirror in shock. "Alice, you are the muchiest person I know. And your smile is upside down," he added, refusing to use his lovely wife's name and the word frown in the same sentence.
Alice allowed herself to grin at that, but it was just a half-hearted little thing. "Tarrant, I haven't slayed anything lately. In fact, there's nothing I've been doing as of late that requires any muchness of any sort."
"You're married to me," Hatter raised an eye-brow. "That takes more muchness than slaying a Jabberwocky."
"But I like being married to you," she insisted, turning to him.
"Which requires even more muchness," he laughed, showing his gap-tooth grin. "Alice, I'm mad. Utterly, completely bonkers. And yet you love me. That requires muchness. And a lot of it."
Alice shook her head and laughed slightly before facing her reflection again. "Tarrant?"
"I'm twenty-five years old-"
"Don't start in on age, Alice love. I don't know how old I am. In fact, I doubt I shall ever get any older or younger, which is quite confusing," he added, knitting his brows together.
Alice smiled and shook her head. "I wasn't going to talk about age. Besides, I don't think things age much in Underland at all, which would include me, now. But what I was going to say is that I'm twenty-five years old and I guess I feel...unaccomplished. I know I slayed the Jabberwocky and defeated the Red Queen and expanded my father's trade and married you, but somehow I still feel like something is missing."
"Well, it's only Brilling. Maybe you can accomplish something of muchness yet today," Hatter smiled.
Alice smiled and turned back to Hatter, shaking her head and laughing at herself. "I'm having a quarter-life crisis," she giggled. "I'm being foolish. I'm sorry."
Hatter took her in his arms and held her close, thanking heaven that he wasn't going mad at the moment. "Nothing you can do could ever be foolish. You're my Alice, and my Alice is the most wonderful, muchiest person in all of Underland."
Alice blushed and held him close as well, relishing in his embrace. "You're my muchness, Hatter. And I'm not losing you," the relization hit her. Hatter really was her muchness. And if he wasn't going anywhere...
"I'll never lose my muchness, Tarrant, so long as I never lose you."
"Never fear, my love. I have nowhere to go."
And then there was no reason for anymore words.
D'awww! Hatter and Alice forever, I say! Currently, they are my top, number one favorite couple. Well I hope you all enjoyed this and all I can say now is REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW!
