Logan was ninety-eight percent sure...ninety-nine percent sure… that Max was nowhere to be found. She wasn't even in the state, which was the only reason he found the courage to do what he did next simply because he needed to wipe that smirk off of Alec's face.
Expect the unexpected.
Not one patron of the seedy bar anticipated Logan's move. Alec proposed a bet on their pool game; loudly enough to draw attention because that's what he did best. The insinuation was that the winner of the game would be having a "good time on top" later in the evening.
Amidst the approving hooting and hollering of the bar's patrons, Logan could feel his face burn hot to the tips of his ears, but all he could see was that goddam smirk on that goddam face. So he responded without thinking.
"You mean, like this?" he growled at he invaded Alec's space, pushed him against the pool table and aggressively caught his lips in a kiss. If he'd had better leverage, Logan would've laid Alec out on the dingy, battered table and climbed on top just to make his point. As it was, Logan settled for a decisive kiss, making sure he was the one to start and end it.
As Logan stepped away, he could hardly hear the cheers of the drunken crowd. His bravado was as quick to fade as the impulse he'd followed, and the look on Alec's face set his pulse racing for an entirely different reason. Alec pushed himself away from the table and handed his pool cue to a bystander. He held his hands up in mock surrender. "You win. Let's go."
