"Gibbs..." Her eyes glistened with unshed tears.

He touched a finger to her lips signaling her not to say anything. Then kissed her cheek gently maybe a little bit too gently. He really hoped Tony would keep his mouth shut about it. His phone vibrated in his pocket. If he wasn't leaving he would give them a lecture about turning his "Damn ringer back on!". He took it out and tried to make out the letters on the little screen although he had a guess who it was.

A-B

"Abby..." He sighed. Knowing that she would just drive over to his house if he didn't pick up so he took the call.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah? Thats all you have to say? Gibbs how could you do that to me? To us!"

"Abby I'm not doing anything to you. Its not like I'm saying goodbye...forever."

"Gibbs we need you here!"

"No you don't Dinozzo has your back now."

"Its not the same and you know it!"

"Abs..."

"Am I going to have to come over there and give you one of your own head slaps? You know what? Never mind I''m coming over."

"Damnit!"

He heard her car pull up, the stomping of her heels on the concrete and then finally the loud bang as she slammed the door.

"GIBBS! Leroy Jethro Gibbs where are you? You better not have escaped out the window. I am a forensic scientist I will FIND you!"

"In the kitchen Abs." He had started brewing some coffee feeling he was going to need it.

"Are you going to explain now?" Her eyes and nose scrunched up in annoyance. Then next thing he felt a smack to the back of his head.

"Hey!"

"Are you listening to me?"

He turned around facing her not seeing what he expected. Instead of a livid Abby he saw a broken one. There wasn't anything specific just the way her eyes were sunken and the lack of any meaningful expression.

"Abbs..." He didn't know what to say he just stared waiting for her to say something. She squeezed out some sort of gasp and sob combo. He grimaced. He didn't want to do this especially not to her.

"Why? Why are you abandoning us?"

"I'm not abandoning you-"

"Don't you say that! Don't you dare say that! Because its exactly what you're doing you're abandoning us when things get tough and thats not right!" She rose an octave with every point she made.

"Ab-"

"Let me finish! Theres you... And theres me... The team... But thats not even the point. The point is I DON'T KNOW!" The tears in her eyes overflowed. Gibbs put his cup down and pulled her flush against his body crushing her in a hug.

"Abby this doesn't mean the end of us...our...friendship... I can't stand this anymore..." He pulled her tighter as she cried into his shirt.

"I can't let people die like this anymore if I can't do anything about it then what is the point?"

She still didn't stop crying which as always absolutely did him in every time. He pulled her back from him to look her in the eye. She stared at a fixed spot on his shirt.

"You are not losing me."

She looked back up at him.

"You promise?"

He then kiss the side of her cheek dangerously close to her lips.

"I promise." He whispered to her.
