So, I was at camp, at Creative Writing camp, and we had to do a prompt on Drums. Of course,
the Master pops right into my head. I wrote this.
Disclaimer: What's mine is mine, anything you recognise isn't.
The Sound of Drums
The drums thudded in his head twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. No matter where he was, Earth or otherwise, he always heard the relentless pounding of the never-ending drums.
A steady, fast, four-beat tune drummed into his head, ever since he was a mere eight years old. Bum-bum-bum-bum. Bum-bum-bum-bum. It consumed him, slowly making him go insane. The sound of the drums, never stopping, never ceasing.
People said they couldn't hear it, but he knew better. They now heard it every day of their miserable human lives. It was the beat they now tapped absentmindedly when waiting in line, the beat they tapped to their music. That four-beat tune, over and over, hypnotizing the human race. Oh, they could hear it alright; they just didn't know what they were hearing. But he did. He knew better than anyone about the never ending drumbeats. And god, did he wish they would stop. But they never would.
They pounded an unrelenting beat into his head, never ceasing their infernal banging.
The Sound of Drums. Bum-bum-bum-bum.
