Dinner

Marley was waiting until the water boiled before she dumped the rice mix into the pot.

The sleeping boy was stirring, causing her to smile slightly. He was finally awake. She poured the rice into the water. He sniffed the air.

"Hey… w-who are you?" he asked, his stare was blank.

"I'm Marley. I found you sleeping by this tree and I thought you'd like something to eat." She looked at the boy. "What's your name?"

"I'm Lucas. How did you know I loved food so much?" He sat up, walked over to the pot. "How long will this take? I'm starving!" His stomach growled. Marley chuckled slightly, shrugging.

"I don't know, maybe ten minutes." She grabbed a thermos from her bag and sipped some warm tea from it. "Hmm… I don't know how I can give you some of my tea. You don't believe in all of that cootie crap, do you?"

"It's okay. I don't really like tea and I already have my own thermos." He grabbed a thermos from his bag. "Mine has soup in it. But it's too cold to eat." He sighed.

"Wait. Maybe you could dump into here?" she suggested. He looked at her funnily. Hesitating, he poured the soup into the pot. The two watched the soup and rice mix together. Now, Marley's stomach was growling too. Marley believed that it was done. She pulled out two bowls and forks from her bag, handing them to Lucas. "Dip it. See?" She dipped her bowl into the soup/rice mix. "It makes it easier to fill."

Lucas dipped the bowl into the soup.

The two ate quietly, except for the occasional slurp.

Marley was starting to like this boy…
