The War with the Far Away Cousins
By Serena Hua
"Kids!" Mum yelled, "Gather in the living room please!" All three of us ran into the living room to find Mum sitting on the rocking chair and dad standing right behind her. Iris (who's the oldest) sat on the couch. I sat on the other end of the couch and Rose (who's the youngest) collapsed on the rug showing all the different types of flowers. Why in the world did our parents name us different flowers? I don't know.
My name is Lily. I am ten, almost eleven. I'll be eleven on October twelve. I have wavy dark hair that sometimes shifts colors. My eye color is violet, lighter then Iris' eyes. I live in Washington State and I love to read in my spare time!
"What's up mum?" I asked.
"Remember your cousins from Massachusetts?" Mum asked. Iris rolled her "unique" violet eyes. She only said it was unique cause when she was younger she had complained to mum and dad that her eyes were different and ugly so mum and dad said that is why they are unique, even though I have light violet eyes like her she would say that hers was "unique" and mine weren't. Man she gets on my nerves!
"Well…" mum continued, "they needed a place to stay…" mum's voice trailed off, but she didn't need to continue because I got the memo. She had invited them to stay over. You would be thinking right now, no big deal there just cousins' right? Wrong. They were all boys! Plus when they had visited a few years ago, Iris found her bed full of toothpaste and I had a pillow full of whipped cream. And let's just say that Rose's prank was not pretty in her crib.
"MUM! You couldn't… you wouldn't…" I paused and looked at her. My tone changed. "You did didn't you?" Mum hung her head in shame. I turned to face my sisters, nodded and said, "She did" Iris fell so she was lying on the couch like it was a bed. Rose and I screamed one word "NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
