Disclaimer: I don't own the Cosby show. I am a fan of it though

When Clair and Cliff came up to speak with Vanessa they found her staring off into space. She had tears in her eyes.

"Clair," Cliff said motioning her out of the room, "I don't think this is about makeup"

"Of course it is," Clair said, "she's just being dramatic hoping to get off the hook"

"Hm… what professional school did you go to," Cliff said, "I know what I'm talking about?"

She fixed him with a look.

"Okay fine Cliff," Clair said, "if this isn't about make-up what is it abut?"

"Depression," Cliff explained.

"I'll buy that," Clair said

"You will?"

"Absolutely," Clair said, "she's depressed because she can't wear make-up and is going to get in trouble for breaking a rule"

"No she's depressed Clair," Cliff said, "It's a serious problem"

"She's thirteen. What does she have to be depressed about?"

"Depression is physical illness having to do with chemical changes in the body"

Clair sighed, feeling frustrated. She didn't want to believe that Vanessa had a serious problem.

"So what are you suggesting Cliff? We should let her off the hook because she's sad"

"She is not sad, she's DEPRESSED "

"Well the first thing I'm going to suggest is that you stop being such a control freak-"

"I am not a control freak"

"Really? Clair you try to control everything including what I eat"

"You don't eat right," Clair said, "and I love you and want you to be around for a long time"

"Can we get back to the issue at hand," Cliff said, "Vanessa?"

"Well what do you recommend," Clair asked

"She needs therapy," Cliff explained

"Therapy? You really think so?"

"Yes. She might even need some pills to take for awhile or even a brief hospitalization"

"I never realized that," Clair said

"Don't worry dear," Cliff said calmly, "It will be okay"

In time it was because the problem was caught on time

DEPRESSION IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. IF YOU ARE SUFFERING FROM IT OR THINK YOU MIGHT BE SUFFERING FROM IT DON'T WAIT AND DON'T HESISTATE. TELL AN ADULT OR SOMEONE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE TALKING WITH. DEPRESSION IS A DISEASE NOT AN OFFENSE.
