Everybody Loves Raymond

Frank's Death

Devastated... Breathless...

The Barone family was silenced the day Frank was admitted to the hospital and put into critical condition. No one could imagine it happening, but on June 23rd at 2:30 a.m., Frank Barone suffered a severe heart attack.

Marie called an ambulance immediately, then called Raymond and Debrah. Raymond drove the two to the hospital, but they were told by a nurse that the staff couldn't tell them anything yet. Feeling it would comfort them, Raymond decided to take his mother and wife home, and find something to occupy them until they got the phone call.

"So...," said Raymond, unable to think of anything."...Whattuh yuh wanna do?"

"...Nothing," replied Marie, her depression showing in her voice. "I just can't believe this is happening."

"I know," added Debrah." I mean, I never thought Frank could... I-I don't know... It always seemed like... like he'd be around forever."

"I know... I-... I better call Robert," Said Raymond. Ray then got up from the couch and went to the kitchen to use the phone.

"He's trying to be strong," declared Debrah.

"I know he is," replied Marie. "It must be killing him inside."

In the kitchen, Raymond struggled to keep his voice steady, fighting back his pain as he spoke on the phone. "Alright, Robert," he said. "We'll let you know when we get the call... I love you... Bye." Raymond then hung up the phone, wiped his running nose and snuffled, then grabbed his right arm with his left arm in a hug-like embrase, and looked into space.

The images burned in Raymond's tired mind; Frank, his grumpy, care-free father, grabbing his throbbing heart, his face tightening with the pain, pain a man like Frank never feels. Screams of pain and agony being let out, then seeing him collapse on the floor.

Teers fell from Raymond's eyes. Teers he couldn't let anyone see.

Suddenly, Raymond felt two arms wrap around him. They were Debrah's arms. "It's okay," she said. "You don't have to be strong for us."

Raymond nodded, then turned around, pressed his face into Debrah's shoulder, then began crying, letting his pain out, letting someone be strong for him.
