Hi all! Long time, no post! Oh, how I've missed y'all. This is my first Cal/Gillian fic. Okay, so it's more of a ficlet… The following takes place immediately after 'Exposed.'

For csiAngel, who is a constant source of encouragement and support. I couldn't have done this without you. 1 down, 2 to go… Also, a shout out to ltmteamawesome!

"Hey," Gillian said, minutely startled by Cal's sudden appearance. She saved her place with the ribbon end of the bookmark and closed her book before glancing up at Cal.

"Everything all right, love?" he asked, forehead slightly crinkled in concern.

"Things are good," she nodded, a muted smile on her face. "What are you doing here?" she continued. "Still checking up on me?"

"What?" Cal replied. "No, of course not. No more secrets, eh?"

"Yeah…" Gillian trailed off, the smile falling from her face.

"Emily and I were having a bite to eat," he offered after a moment, turning and waving to his daughter-proven so by the DNA test-through the floor-to-ceiling glass wall of the café.

Emily smiled and waved; Gillian followed suit.

"Listen," Cal continued, drawing Gillian's attention once again, "if you ever need to talk…"

"Hey, who's the psychologist here?" Gillian countered lightly.

"You know, 41 percent of psychologists see psychologists."

"You're lying."

"Well, yeah," Cal admitted, "but the point is that, you know, if you need to talk, you can always come to me."

"Because there are no secrets." Stated.

"Are you okay?" Gillian asked amused.

"Yeah, fantastic. Just making sure you know you've always got me as a friend."

"I do know that."

"So because of that, you and I will never be alone."

She smiled-really smiled-up at him. "Yeah."

Cal let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding and quickly changed the subject. "You want to join us?" he asked, motioning toward where Emily waited for him inside.

"Thanks, but I'd rather be alone." Gillian shook her head wryly as she quickly realized her own verbal miscue. "You know what I mean."

"Yeah," Cal replied, rocking back on his heels, hesitating.

"About what happened…"

Gillian half-shrugged. "Can't change it, so we move on, right?"

Cal studied her. Not reading her, just studying. "Right." A beat. "Well, I better get back to Emily."

"After today you never have to eat here again," she smirked as he began to leave. "I know you hate it."

He made a face. "They don't give you enough food. A man could go hungry with their portions. Or go broke trying to get his fill. But Emily likes it, so here we are."

"Sure," Gillian replied, "that's the reason."

"Of course it is, darling. No secrets." He flashed her a lopsided grin and turned to leave.

"Cal," Gillian called after him.

He stopped and faced her again, pleased to be met with a bright smile.

"Thank you."

Those two words said it all, and despite what Emily said, as long as Gillian Foster was in his life, neither of them would ever be alone.
