"Good-bye, Ashley."

The boy smiled brightly, his eyes shining. He clenched the hand that the girl had just touched in a loose fist, and held it to his chest. A bright light started to engulf him, and before the girl could react, the glow disappeared – along with the boy.

She reached up towards the starlit sky, lost for words. The night had become dark again, without the light hovering around the boy to suffuse the air. Her heart started to churn out a maelstrom of emotions, and through her thickened throat, she found only one thing to say; so she whispered the word into the strangely calm night.
