A/N: This was for a joint challenge between atlaland and avatar_500 . This idea came from browsing through season one footage for my season one video entry.

Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: the Last Airbender.

Warnings: Set post-series but nothing of spoilers to warn of.

Mother Nature Calls
By: Nuit Songeur

Sokka was pacing, back and forth. His hands were folded behind his back as his boots crunched through the thin layer of snow that covered the icy ground. A breeze blew, sharp against Sokka's reddening face. But he ignored the discomfort and didn't draw up his hood. His audience's eyes were carefully trained on him as he paced back and forth, back and forth.

"Men," Sokka said finally. "They say that the war is finally over. Officially, it is. That does not mean, however, it's over in the minds of other people, of other nations. You must be constantly vigilant, always watching."

Sokka stopped moving and stroked his newly developed beard, deliberating. After a moment he reached to his left side and unsheathed his black blade, pointing the gleaming metal to the nearby village.

"Your job is to protect them. Take no chances to risk their lives—"

A raised hand caught his attention.

"What? What is it?" Sokka asked, somewhat annoyed. The owner of the hand lowered his arm back to his lap.

"I gotta pee!"

There was a smacking sound, and a small burst of heat erupted where his hand made contact with his forehead.

"Did you not learn anything while I was gone? You know, like, how to control your bladder or manners while someone is talking to you?"

The boy shook his head. Sokka sighed as several more boys started to chime in how they had to go to the bathroom as well.

"You know, I've been in the midst of battle many times, fighting the Fire Nation. And not once did I have to have a potty break!" One the boys looked at him curiously.

"Is that why you're so angry all the time?" Sokka felt his shoulders slump in defeat. He pointed to the village again with his sword.

"Make it quick."
