Author's Note: This chapter is not Beta'd as my fantastic Beta (breathoftwilight) is currently busy with The Countdown to Halloween and I was too impatient to wait.

NB: You know the drill, these characters are not mine. Damn.

Please feel free to review, I love to read them.

I padded into the dark kitchen quietly, still stumbling slightly as my legs hadn't quite recovered from their jelly-like, post-orgasmic state. I was smiling to myself as I remembered the feel of his lips on mine, which of course means I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.

So it should come as no surprise that I jumped the height of myself when Emmett's head poked out from behind the fridge door.

What is it with him appearing randomly from behind that damn door?

"Christ, Emmett!" I chuckled as I clutched my chest, trying to slow my heart which was currently hammering in my chest from the fright he just gave me. "You have to stop jumping out at me from behind there!"

"Sorry, Bells." He grinned, not looking in the least bit so. "Rose said I could help myself to a snack."

"Of course, yeah. Though, I'd say that's more like a meal, Em."

I stared in disbelief, as he closed the fridge and revealed a huge plate of food. Even in the dim light from the street lamps outside, I could see just how much he had on there. Cold cuts of cooked meat, bread, cheese, mayo, the tub of left over pasta from the night before and – oh hell no!

"Oh, no you don't, Mr!" I laughed, snatching the white box that he'd just balanced on top of his food mountain. "That is the last few slices of the best chocolate cake I have ever had the good fortune to taste. That, my friend, is staying with me."

"Ok, ok. Hands off the chocolaty goodness, I get it." He raised his free hand in mock surrender, placed his plate on the counter, and turned to me with a wicked grin on his face. "So..."

Oh, here we go.

"You and J, huh?" He wiggled his eyebrows as he spoke which made it incredibly hard to keep a straight face.

"Mmhmm." I tried to look nonchalant as I went to the drawers in search of a spoon.

"Don't play the innocent with me, Bells. You're in nothing but his shirt so I'm guessing you guys had fun."

"Fine," I huffed, embarrassed "yes we did have fun. A lot of fun, actually." I couldn't help the grin that lit up my face as I said it and he certainly didn't miss it either.

"That a fact? Aw, well I'm glad. He's been nuts about you for long enough. Judging by the noise you were making in there, I'd say the feeling is mutual." He was winked, and though he was laughing lightly, I could tell he wasn't taking the piss anymore. Much.

"Yeah, well. He's a great. Least, from what I've seen anyway. Oh, put the eyebrow down, Emmett you perv, you know that's not what I'm talking about. He seems like a good guy, but I'm just going to take it as it comes. If I hear from him after tonight, then you can ask me that again." I laughed it off, but I still wasn't wholly convinced that he was planning on being a regular fixture in my life, even if it was obvious to me and apparently everyone else that I wanted him to be.

"Bella, listen to me. I haven't seen him this worked up about anyone since Alice ditched him a year ago. I won't tell you what happened, it's between them and not my place to say. But what I can say, is that he's been more like his old self in the last few weeks since he first saw you in the bar than he's been since her, and happier tonight than I've seen him in years."

He continued, "Rose mentioned that you came here after a rough break up yourself. Don't worry, she didn't go into details. Point is, I think you'll be good for each other, and I'm glad he asked me to give him the kick up the ass he needed to finally make a move."

Emmett was smiling so warmly at me, and I was speechless.

"I don't know what to say. That's, um. That's really sweet of you to say, Emmett."

"Well, you're welcome. I really mean it, Bella." He put his arms round me and gave me the loveliest bear hug I've ever had in my life. He felt amazing, like a gorgeous, over sized, Atlas-shaped teddy bear. Aww.

Just then I heard a clearing of a throat, and saw J and Rose stood in the doorway, looking curiously at us. J was back in those fuck-hot jeans with bare feet and Rose was in nothing but a rather large men's t shirt which I took to be Emmett's.

"What's going on, B?" She asked, one eyebrow raised.

"Nothing, Duchess. Emmett was just earning a piece of my chocolaty goodness." I smiled up at him warmly and his eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas.

"Excuse me?" asked J, confused.

"Means the English Muffin loves me, dude." He boomed as he looked at me expectantly.

I chuckled as I flipped open the lid of the white box and J's face relaxed into that lazy, panty-wetting smirk as he realised I was, in fact, talking about chocolate cake.

"Wow, Em. What did you say to her? She won't even share that with me?" Rose giggled as she walked over to stand next to him. She looked so radiant, even with the blatant case of post-sex bed-head.

Though I would assume, I wasn't faring much better in that department.

"I never said anything about sharing, I just said he could have a taste." I said pointedly as Emmett went to take a whole slice.

"Tease." His face fell, but still managed to take more than half of it on his fork.

J was just standing there taking in the scene. I thought maybe he was upset about the hug, but he seemed to relax as Em and I bantered back and forth. I reached out my hand to him and he strolled over and wrapped his arms round my waist from behind.

"You certainly are." He whispered, as he bent down to kiss my neck, and rested his chin on my shoulder. He pulled me to his chest as he leant back against the counter.

"So what was the big lug sayin' to deserve a piece of that cake?" He drawled and I could hear the smile in his voice. "It sure must have been somethin', 'cause that cake smells damn good, I gotta say."

He loves chocolate? Fuck, this man was made for me!

"He was just saying that I have the hottest roommate ever." I winked at Emmett and he looked slightly relieved that I hadn't told Jasper what he'd actually been saying.

Rose could see right through me, of course, and I didn't turn round to see if J had too.

"Well, I think I'll just get us a drink and leave you two to it." She said suddenly, with a pointed look at me. "Come on, Em."

With that she promptly grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge and pulled Emmett along behind her as she sashayed back out of the kitchen. Once again, she cannot simply just walk.

"So what was he really sayin' to you, Sugar? I know that big guy like he's my brother. A hug like that speaks volumes from him." He didn't sound annoyed, so I decided to just tell him.

Turning to face him, I placed my hands on his chest and gazed up into those gorgeous eyes.

"He was just telling me that tonight's been the happiest he's seen you look in years, and that he's glad you got him to come with you tonight. He also said that he thinks we'll be good for each other."

He seemed to think about that for a minute, and I felt like I should elaborate. Damn my rambling word vomit.

"He didn't tell me anything really, just that from what Rose told him about me, he says that we've both have had a similarly crap time. He didn't go into details though, J and I didn't ask."

I wasn't sure what else to say, so I snaked my arms round his waist and leant my forehead onto his chest. Certain that I'd just over shared, ruined the mood and dropped Emmett in it, all at once.

Good work, Bella.

"She broke my heart, Bella. Alice and I were together through college, we lived together for the last two years we were together, and I couldn't have told you there was even the slightest thing wrong with our relationship until the day she told me she was leavin'. I came home one day to find her packed suitcases by the front door."

He paused, trying to keep his composure while I stood there silently seething. I was appalled. How could she have done that? Breaking up with someone is one thing, but what she'd done was inexcusable. I was fuming! The hateful bitch! I didn't want to say anything to upset him further so I just hugged him tighter.

"Apparently, she'd accepted a job with a fashion design company in Milan and she was leavin'. I didn't even know she'd applied for the damn job! She left me then, with a kiss on the cheek and an envelope on the kitchen table with a cheque for the next two months rent. No explanation, no apology, nothin'. I just stood there like an ass, while the woman I loved walked out of my life without sayin' a god-damn word."

"I'm so sorry, J." I whispered, keeping my arms round him. I really didn't know what to say other than that I'd cheerfully kick that bitch from here to London for hurting him like that. I couldn't even imagine doing something so cruel. I would never...

He lifted my chin with his finger in that wonderfully familiar gesture of his, so that I was looking up at his lovely face.

"I know you wouldn't, darlin'," he smiled down at me "yeah, you were thinking out loud again."

Once again, words failed me, though I suppose if I had just said that all out loud, he knew what my thoughts were on the subject. So I stepped away and hopped up onto the counter next to him. He turned to me and I pulled him to stand between my legs.

I threaded my fingers through his hair and leaned in to kiss him gently. He pulled me to the edge of the counter so that our bodies were as flush as they could be, and I wrapped my legs around his waist.

"I'm so sorry she did that to you. If she is capable of something like that, then she doesn't deserve you, J."

He looked at me and for a moment, there was so much emotion in his eyes, then that trademark grin spread across his face.

"Well, if she hadn't done it, I wouldn't be here with you. So I can't really be too upset about it."

"All the same, I think I may need to spend some time trying to make you feel better." I smiled coyly as I put my hands beside me on the counter to hold my weight. I stared into his darkening eyes as I slid myself slowly down his body. "I thought you might like some of my delicious chocolate cake for starters."

I picked up the white box full of the positively sinful dessert, and began to walk back towards my bedroom. He stood there all slack jawed for a minute before recovering himself.

"Darlin', won't I need a fork?" He asked, chuckling to himself.

I turned back to look at him, biting my lip as I smirked and began unbuttoning the shirt I'd borrowed until it was completely open, exposing my red boy shorts but still covering my breasts. Just.

"Well, it's up to you, Cowboy. But you sure as hell won't be using a plate."

I winked, and turned heading back to my room. He stood stock still as he watched me walk away, and I stopped in the doorway wondering if I'd just made a complete berk of myself. He took a step toward me and my panties were suddenly damp as I took in the sight of him.

His eyes were hooded and the light coming through the kitchen window created a shadow that made every beautiful plain and curve of his face look like they'd been cut from marble. It was incredible, like staring at the face of an angel. He sauntered slowly over to me, took the box out of my hands and pulled me to him.

"My, my, Miss Bella. And just what do we do if I make a mess?" He drawled, setting off little butterflies of anticipation in my stomach.

God, I'm so horny for him right now!

"That's what our amazing shower is for, Jasper," I was almost panting from the delicious way his breath felt against the sensitive spot on my neck. I'd never been so grateful to Rose for having an amazing bathroom suite installed in this place before I moved in.

"Oh, really?" I could feel his lips turn up into a smile against my skin as he spoke.

"Well, yeah." I answered slowly. Keeping one arm round his neck, I slid my hand between us, palmed his very prominent erection through his jeans and turned my head to whisper against his cheek. "I mean, what's the fun of getting clean, if you don't get a little dirty first?"
