100 words exactly – a follow on from a previous drabble called "No Other Choice."

The Vigil

Removing his brother's jacket had been difficult, removing his shirt, Sam decided, would be impossible. Instead he opted to cut through the dirty fabric, exposing the damaged shoulder.

Dean mumbled incoherently as Sam wrapped a trembling hand around the blood-stained shaft that was still protruding from swollen-flesh.

"I'm sorry," he murmured as, with one swift movement, he pulled out the arrow.

Dean cried out, but did not wake as Sam began cleaning the wound, quietly whispering words of encouragement.

Half-an-hour later, the required stitches in place, Sam sat beside his sweat-soaked-brother.

And he was still there when Dean finally awoke!
