It had been one whole year since Jim had seen the woman he loved, one whole year before she moved with her husband to California.

"Jim, earth to Jim. You need to pay attention, this case is huge. We have three dead already, this is the forth." Carlos kept saying.

"I know, it's just been a year." Jim said.

"Dude, I get it, move on."

"Can't do it."

Seven long hours later he arrived at home. He unlocked the door and saw someone he hadn't seen a long time.

"Callie," he breathed.

"Jim," she said, out of breath. He actually looked at her for the first time. She was bruised, bloodied, and the beautiful color was gone from her eyes.

"What happened to you?" He asked, walking over to her.

She flinched from his touch. "Ray," she said solemnly.

"Ray did this to you? Where is Jeff?"

"At my mom's, I had to drive past her house to get here. I hope you don't mind. I just didn't know where else to go." By this point she was fighting back tears.

"Hey, no, it is fine. I am glad you came here. Lets get you cleaned up." He towed her to the kitchen.

When he touched the cloth to her bloody cheek she winced in pain. "You need a doctor."

"No, it will be fine."

"How long has it been like this?" Jim asked. When she didn't answer he repeated himself. "How long, Callie?"

"Just tonight, he got mad. I said something wrong, did something. He just snapped. I grabbed Jeff, packed us two bags, and we left." She said, motioning to the bag on the floor.

He was finished wiping away the blood. "Doctor, now."

"No, Jim. It will be fine, trust me."

"At least let me call Carlos. He is a doctor, sort of."

When Carlos got there he was surprised to see her. He fixed her head and gave her some pills for the pain. With a pointed look at Jim, he left.

"Get changed, go to bed. It has been a long day."

"Will you be here when I get up?"

"Yes, I have asked for tomorrow off."

There was a knock at the door. Jim excused himself to go answer.

He opened the door and there stood Ray.

"Where is she?" He nearly growled.

"Going to sleep."

"In your bed?"

"No, I have a spare. What are you doing here?"

"She is my wife."

"Which, you beat." Jim pointed out.

"What are wives for?"

That was it for Jim. He punched Ray in the jaw and called for backup.

When the cops got there the took Ray away and took Jim's statement.

I think that is it. If you want me to continue tell me. Loved writing it. Hope you loved reading it.
