You Need To Know

"Thanks for walking me home, Percy." Annabeth said to him as they stood outside of the Athena cabin.

"No problem." He said, looking into her cloudy gray eyes. Slowly, he leant forward, kissing her on the lips. His lips lingered there for a moment before pulling away.

She would never get over the feeling of his lips on hers. No matter how many times he kissed her, her knees still went weak as their lips met.

"I'll see you tomorrow. I will beat you in a swordfight. The arena, nine a.m. tomorrow." He said, giving her a look. She just laughed.

"If I were you, I would have given up a long time ago…" She said, looking up at him through her lashes.

"I'll beat you," He said confidently. "…one day."

She laughed again, causing him to smile.

He quickly kissed her again. "Tomorrow, nine. Be there."

"Wouldn't miss it." She said, nodding to him.

He smiled and turned away, walking back the way they had come.

She leaned against the cabin, grinning like a goofball. She couldn't believe Percy liked her. Percy Jackson, the hero of Olympus. He was her boyfriend. She knew they were young, Percy two weeks from being eighteen, seventeen herself, but she knew he was the one. He was the one she would marry, have children with, and one day grow old with. She was sure of it.

And then she started to cry. She hadn't cried in a very long time, but now the tears poured down her face like rain.

But she wasn't sad. The tears were of pure joy.

She hadn't been this happy in a long time. To be honest, she couldn't think of a time when she was truly happy, not scared, worried, or upset.

And it was all because of Percy Jackson.

Thinking back, she had never spoken those three magic words to him, or he her. She knew she loved him. She had known that for a long time, yet she had never told him directly, in fear of him not having the same feelings.

But he needed to know.

She got up off the ground she had sunk down onto and started to follow after him. Tears still streaking her face, she was determined to tell him, no matter his reaction.

She broke into a run, heading towards the lake, knowing she would find him there.

He was standing on the dock, looking out at the water. When he heard her feet hit the dock, he turned.

…and she ran straight into his arms.

His arms came up around her instinctively and he held her as she sobbed.

"Shhh, Annabeth, what's wrong?" He asked, his voice quiet in the night.

"N-nothing. I'm just really happy." She pulled away to look at him. "I love you, Percy Jackson."

She knew he wasn't going to say it back. He had never said those words to any girl besides his mother, so why should she be any different?

She continued. "I don't expect you to say anything. You don't have to say it back. I just needed you to know."

He looked down at her, his eyes wide, trying to comprehend what he had just heard.

When his thoughts caught up, he quickly said,

"No. I love you too, Annabeth. A lot."

And his head swooped down, capturing her lips with his. The kiss was fierce, erasing all of her doubts.

Once she pulled away, he hugged her tightly to his chest, refusing to let go of her.

"I've always loved you. I just didn't realize it. But even when we were trying to find Zeus's bolt, right after we met, I had feelings for you. I was just afraid you wouldn't feel the same." She said, the last of her tears drying.

"I did. I do." He said. "I love you."

She smiled, kissing him once more.
