A/N: Hello, and welcome to Snakes and Shadows. I hope you like what I have so far, and that you R & R to help me edit or improve my writing. Flamers will be sent to Orochimaru, and dealt with appropriately. So enjoy the first (short) chapter!
"...which means x equals eleven. Now, your homework for tonight will be pages 199-201, numbers 1-60 evens." Nasally, would be your first thought if you heard the teacher speaking. Your next would most likely be monotone. Everything said by Mrs. Harms was in monotone. She never really yelled, and she didn't show much emotion over all, actually.
"This assignment is to be done by Monday, and if it isn't you'll get a detention followed by a zero on the homework," her annoying voice continued, completely ignoring the fact that several students were burning glares into the back of her head while she wrote the assignment on the board at the front of the room.
It was Friday, a normal, weekly Friday with students buzzing in anticipation for the weekend, and teachers gearing up to do whatever teachers do on weekends. I was no exception. Personally, though, I wasn't excited about going to a football game, or anything like that. No, I was thrilled because I was going to Borders that weekend. To me, a bookstore is the equivalent of a 50% off everything Aeropostle sale to a cheerleader. Yes, I may sound nerdy, but I freely admit that I am a nerd. With a structural engineer as a father, you pick up the geeky tendencies.
My Math teacher finally went quiet as the bell rang. Gathering my things, I was about to stand up when my pencil rolled off my desk. Automatically reacting, my hand reached for the pencil. Time seemed to slow as I watched some odd looking swirly thing appear beneath my feet. My black Converse seemed to melt into the floor, taking the rest of my body with them. The last thing I glanced was Mrs. Harms taking off her gray hair, revealing long dark locks, and sinister yellow eyes. Then, I could see nothing but blackness.
"Do ya think she's dead, Kakashi-sensei?"
"Naruto, she has a pulse, so she's alive."
"...Why are you poking her, Naruto-baka? She could be a dangerous missing-nin for all we know!"
"But Sakura-chan! What if she needs me to poke her, so she can wake up?"
Sakura's hand collided with her forehead. Naruto was being an idiot, as usual, and his idiocy wasn't helping the current situation. On their way back from a mission in the Land of Tea, Team 7 had found a girl on the side of the road, out cold. From what the medic-nin could tell, the female hadn't eaten in several days, and her clothes looked entirely foreign. It was obvious she wasn't a local.
Naruto had been the one to find her. She had been sprawled near the edge of the path they were traveling on, with the lower half of her body hidden in the brush. The orange clad ninja decided that Team 7 should help her, as she had no enemy headband. Or a headband at all, actually. This had lead up to the poking scene, because Naruto wanted the girl to wake up, and his impatience had gotten the better of him.
"NARUTO! Stop it! Poking her won't make her wake up any faster you idiot!"
The unconscious girl twitched, and Sakura sweat dropped while Naruto cheered and eagerly watched his self appointed charge for another sign of movement. Soon after, her eyelids opened, revealing eyes the color of bark. Naruto grinned, and leaned over to see the girl's face better.
"Hi! I'm Uzumaki Nar-" before he could finish, the girl froze, and passed out again.
"-uto." The grin faded from his face, and was replaced by an expression of exasperation.
"Are you kidding me?"
Sakura laughed while Sai smiled a smidgen.
