As Castle neared the room he shared with Beckett, he heard sniffles. Barely perceptible, but he heard them just the same. When he poked his head into the room, his heart broke. Beckett was dressed in her favorite flannel pj's and wrapped up in an old blanket as tears fell. He hurried over to the sofa where she sat and sat down beside her. "What's wrong, baby?" he asked softly, pulling her into his arms.
She silently held out the pink stick in her hand, where he could clearly see the minus sign, breaking their hearts for what felt like the hundredth month in a row. "It didn't happen," she whispered, telling him what the pregnancy test already had.
He didn't say another word, just pulled her closer as his tears joined hers in silent grief.
