Inspired by a comment made in "The Misdirected Memoir".
They thought he was stupid, and maybe he was. It did not stop him from hearing what they said. They put it so delicately, with a sad shake of the head. Wondering what precisely was wrong with him.
He liked to think that he was not so stupid as that, that it was really that he had so much more common sense than everyone else—but it simply did not matter. That sort of thought was arrogant anyway. He continued as he was.
No matter what it was that was wrong about him, it did not stop them from talking.
