A/N: For TJ Sparkles, Merry Christmas Tina! Desmond's not quite my speed, but I hope you enjoy it anyway!

Merry Christmas baby, you sure did treat me nice

Merry Christmas baby, you sure did treat me nice

Gave me a diamond ring for Christmas

Now I'm living in paradise

"Excuse me, sir. Sir?"

"Yeah, what?" Desmond grumbled.

"I asked if you wanted another." The bartender said.

"Why the hell not?" He held out his glass for more bourbon.

"Hard night?" She asked while she poured.

"Hard life."

"Wanna talk about it?"

"No." Desmond said quickly.

"It was a woman, wasn't it? Yeah it was. I've seen that look a thousand times before."

"Shut up." He spat. She tossed her blonde tresses over one shoulder and leaned against the bar.

"Make me." She challenged. For a moment, their eyes were fixed on each other's, not hearing, seeing anything or anyone around them.

"Shouldn't you be bedded up with your boyfriend somewhere on a night like this?" Desmond asked before taking a swig from his glass.

"Not the settling type. Now spill." The bartender said. Desmond scowled at her, but realized she wasn't going to back down.

"She was my fiancée…" He started.

"No kidding." She replied.

"Far better than I deserved…"

"I believe it." She shrugged. Desmond eyed her nastily before continuing.

"She wanted to sneak off and get married. Her family was against us from the very beginning."

"So what happened?"

"…I caught her in bed with an old mate from college." He brought the glass to his mouth and swallowed hard.

"Ouch." She tilted her head and cringed.

"No worries, I fixed it."

"Fixed it?"

"She won't betray me again."

"Oh yeah, and how'd you figure that?" She asked with intrigue.

"I told myself ages ago, if a woman ever made a fool outta me, it would only happen once…" There was something very cold in Desmond's eyes as he stared off at nothing.

"What did you do?" She asked hardly above a whisper.

"Needn't you worry your pretty little head about that. Everything worked out in the end." He said. The leggy blonde was almost at a loss for words.

"So wh-what happened after all…that?" She asked. He grinned and ran his hand over hers. She gasped when she saw fresh blood on his hand.

"I came here."
