The Second Seven Years: Prologue

A/N: Part of "The In-Between" series: because epilogues are never satisfying…

Happily ever after.

That's how my story ends.

Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived, Chose One, war hero- you pick the label. Doesn't matter in the slightest to me. The point is, you know who I am and you know my story.

And I'm not saying that out of some self-satisfaction in my fame. It's just a fact of my life, whether wanted or unwanted. From the day I turned eleven, I've been aware of it. Every wizard in the world knows my name. Since the Battle of Hogwarts, most know who Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are as well. To this day, thirty years later, none of us go anywhere without a stranger's 'hello' or handshake. Even Hogwart's History of Magic professor, Binns, can't help but spend a week at the end of each year (after exams, of course) teaching about the First and Second Wars. Surprising, given that Binns never lectures about anything that took place later than the turn of the 19th century. It's too bad that he can transform any subject matter into a coma-inducing lullaby. As a result, only those students who manage to stay awake know the names of the lesser-known heroes: Luna Lovegood, Neville Longbottom, Hagrid, Lupin the Werewolf, Nymphadora Tonks, Fred Weasley…

Anyway, you get the idea. Few know the whole story. Few think of anything but victory. Despite the spectacular efforts of one lovely lady (Rowling, I believe her name is) to give a personal, enthralling version of events, much of the war's aftermath is glossed over. That important era of reconstruction and its lessons about the cost of war have been lost. As the Muggle's say about the Holocaust, we must 'never forget.' Unfortunately, I fear this generation- the second removed from the time of fear and hate that was Voldemort's rising- is doing just that.

That is why I'm here- as much as I have tried to duck out of the spotlight my entire life, I need to tell you about my second seven years in the wizarding world.

A/N: Ta-da! My first foray into the HP fanfic world…please review and help bolster my confidence!

As stated above, part of a series meant to bridge the gap between the last battle and the DH epilogue. It will be as compliant as possible (unless I botch my research!). Logic: if it is good enough Rowling, it is good enough for me! There will be future stories that venture further into the lives of the Next Generation.
