I'm pretty much in love with Vanitas. He's my favorite character. Unfortunately I never got to play Birth by Sleep. D: Damn my lack of a PSP… but yeah, this is a longer chapter, no? xD Not so much a drabble. D:
Vanitas hid in the shadows in an alley of Radiant Garden. Waiting for 'the plan' to take off. The idiot Ventus was to be arriving here soon. So until then, Vanitas would wait. But Vanitas got bored, and he decided he'd 'speed up' things. He'd unleash a few of his Unversed, and laugh at the misfortune of the residents of this world. He began to walk out of the alley and into the townsplace, making sure to go unnoticed until-
"Excuse me, Mister? Would you like to buy a glass of lemonade?" He looked down at his leg, a little girl with short red hair and brilliant blue eyes was poking at it. Imbecile. Aren't parents supposed to teach their children not to talk to strangers? Especially masked strangers?
"What?" Vanitas replied, annoyed. "Lemonade? No. I don't want any lemonade." He snapped. The little girl seemed a little more frightened now, but she still went on.
"But you could be my first customer!" She was smiling now, and at that moment, Vanitas almost went 'aw'. However, he didn't. He'd leave that to Ventus. But, he did, ah, what was the word? Feel bad? Whatever. That was the closest word to it anyway.
"Fine, give me a glass." Vanitas grumbled lowly, almost embarrassed. Was he really buying a glass of lemonade from a stupid little girl? Whatever.
The little girl smiled even wider and quickly poured him a cup. "Here you go, Mister!" She eagerly handed him the cup. He hesitantly took the cup. She continued to stare at him.
"What?" He replied, his lip curved into a slight scowl. Not like she could see. "Well drink it!" she said.
Vanitas paused for a moment. "Don't you want munny, kid?" His voice still annoyed sounding. He just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible.
"No, I just want you to drink it." She replied. "And my name is Kairi."
Vanitas hesitantly took off his mask, and sipped the lemonade. He never tasted it before. It was sour…yet sweet. And refreshing. Vanitas liked it, for lack of a better word.
He looked at her, wondering if he should say 'thank you' or 'that was fantastic, order me 8 more!' or something cheesy like that. All he could manage to spit out was, "Good." and then his mask immediately went back on. And then he almost seemed to disappear, back into the shadows again.
And even at the mere age of 5, Kairi would remember those black locks and shining yellow eyes for forever. This probably explained why, when she was older, she was so obsessed with a similar looking boy…except, he had brown locks and beautiful blue eyes. And a heart of gold. She never did learn the Masked Boy's name...
