001: Sleeping In

From his position—propped up on one elbow, looking down at her—he couldn't deny that she looked cute when she slept. Her hair was mussed, and her nightgown wrinkled, but there was something endearing about the way her hands were clenched into loose fists, and her lips parted just slightly even though she only ever breathed through her nose.

"Hey," he said quietly, his index finger ticking the underside of her chin.

The corner of her lips twitched upward just the smallest bit to his amusement.

She'd gotten home late and had fallen asleep almost the moment her head hit the pillow. But she was a stickler for routine and she had slept an entire half-hour beyond her normal waking time. The fact that she wasn't waking up—grumbling to herself, changing her clothes, making certain the blankets were tucked neatly around him before she left—was likely what had woken him up.

"Jill." His lips pressed against hers briefly before he let his hand brush her bangs back into some semblance of order. He kissed her again. "Hey, Jill." And again, "Wake up."

Finally, her eyelashes fluttered and she sleepily kissed him back. "Whatizzit?" she dared to ask.

"You slept in," he told her seriously. "It woke me up."

She fumbled with her hand until she found his mouth, covering it as she curled herself against him. "Haar, go back to sleep."

He didn't bother questioning her. If she was tired and wanted to sleep more, who was he to tell her no? After all, if she was going to sleep more, it meant he could sleep more, and sleep was one of his favorite things to do.

He peeled her hand off of his mouth and kissed her fingers before laying one arm over her. "Good night," he whispered, but she had already gone back to sleep.

Author Notes:

Ahh, some sap. I have longer Haar/Jill pieces in the works, but I'll need this drabble collection to get away from the other stories and escape to some happy plotless stuff.
