Fireworks by DD Agent
I do not own Lewis or any of its characters, or its settings
A new year was upon them at Oxfordshire police station, and Laura Hobson was outside of their chosen pub with a glass of champagne in her hand, looking up at the fireworks over the city. The year before had been awful, with friends passing on and nearly being buried alive herself. She had reconnected with her past, while once again ignoring her present. She hoped the year ahead would be better, but no doubt it would come with its own complications.
"Happy New Year, Laura," cheered Robbie Lewis to the side of her. They clinked glasses for a moment before he tucked an arm around her shoulders. She leaned into his embrace, feeling safe with him. Since Halloween they had grown closer, almost but not quite crossing a line into something that had been on the cards for some time.
"Happy New Year, Robbie."
He cocked a smile at her, his eyes lighting up. "Try not to get buried alive in this one, promise?"
Hathaway called him back inside, and he pressed his lips gently to her cheek. "See you later, Laura."
She was left alone again, the warmth of Robbie's touch embracing her skin. Fireworks kept going above her, inside the pub couples kissed and toasted to the New Year. She was by herself, although for a moment she wanted anything but. She wondered whether she should add another resolution to her list, along with not being buried alive. By the time 2012 rolled around, she wanted Robbie Lewis.
