A/N: I should stop staying up until 6am.
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters, they belong to my queen, J.K Rowling. I just borrowed their names.
And I realised, half-way through writing, that I may have "borrowed" the "plot" from one of the Twilight books.
I cannot be blamed for this.
'I don't want you to go!' she said, tears streaming down her face.
Severus grabbed Hermione by the arms. 'I know,' he said, his eyebrows so creased that they meshed into one 'I don't want to go either. But I have to. You know I do.' He said, rubbing her arms.
'No!' Hermione complained, pounding a fist on his chest. 'No. No. No.' She looked at him through tear-stricken eyes.
'I don't know why you're getting so worked up about this. I won't be long.' Severus hugged Hermione to his chest. She nuzzled in, marking his travelling cloak with her tears.
He stroked her hair 'I'll be fine.'
'It's not fair.' Said Hermione and she hugged him tighter, tears subsiding. If she wanted to convince him to stay, she had to be strong – as strong as him.
She looked him straight in the eyes and said simply, 'don't go.'
Severus looked at Hermione, 'I have to go,' he said.
Hermione buried her face in his chest and sniffled.
Severus looked up to the ceiling of his private chambers, frowning. 'I don't think you understand my position. I'm doing this for all of you, for all that is good in this world. So stop acting like a spoilt child and just come to terms with the fact that there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop me.'
Hermione looked up at Severus. She grabbed his face and, standing on her toes, she kissed him, flinging her arms around his neck, pulling herself closer to him.
Severus, overcome for a moment, kissed her back, relishing in the taste of her mouth and the fever with which she was throwing herself at him. But he soon came to his senses. 'Hermione' he mumbled. He pulled her off him 'Hermione, stop it and listen to me.'
Hermione let go of him, she took a step back and looked at the ground.
Severus closed the gap, 'look at me.'
Hermione looked at him through, once again, teary eyes.
'Do not, for one iota of a second, think that me leaving means I care for you any less. Frankly, this has nothing to do with you. If I could, I would keep you as far away from this side of my life as possible. But, seeing as I can't, I would like to leave with you accepting the fact that I have to do this, regardless of your feelings for me and mine for you.' He lifted up Hermione's chin to look at her. 'Do you understand?'
'I just want you to be safe,' said Hermione, putting a hand on his cheek.
'I always am. I am good at what I do, you know.' Said Severus smiling and reaching down to hold her hands.
'I love your smile,' said Hermione. Her lips curved up to mirror his.
'And I yours,' replied Severus.
'I'll miss you.'
'I won't be gone for long.'
'Thank you,' said Severus, rubbing Hermione's arm.
'I'm sorry I overreacted,' said Hermione.
'All is forgiven.'
Severus kissed Hermione on the forehead.
'Bye,' said Hermione as Severus walked to the door.
Severus put his hand on the doorknob, lowered his head, and then turned to Hermione. 'I got you something,' he said.
'Oh?' said Hermione taking a step forward.
Severus raised his wand. 'Expecto Patronum' he said calmly and a silvery patronus burst out the end, it was in the shape of an otter.
Hermione opened her mouth to say something, but Severus brought a finger to his lips.
Turning the handle on the door, Severus opened it, strode through it and closed it behind him, leaving Hermione in the room with his patronus.
Hermione marvelled at the patronus.
It blinked at Hermione and when it opened its mouth, it spoke in Severus' smooth voice. 'Hermione Granger', it said, 'I love you.' Then, it disappeared into the air.
'I love you too,' she said.
