Hello! This is a one-shot about Sirius and Bellatrix. Bye!

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Because it had all been just a game.

All the curses and jinxes and spells that the two had ever fired at each other, all the provocations and the cruel implementations and the nasty words they had shot at one another like the magic that spun from their wands, all the fire and hatred and hurt – it had never been more than an out of control game.

And even as they stood face to face in the Ministry, bellowing curses like there was no tomorrow – even with all the chaos taking place around them, throwing them into a sort of dazzle – they were still playing then.

Her hex hit him straight in the chest, causing him to fall. She beamed with a little satisfaction – her stunning curses never failed to hit target, unlike her last unforgiveable, which the brat had dodged with infuriating ease and even more irritating qualms of laughter – and raised her wand to apply the next curse.

Only, she never had to.

Because the boy she had hated all through her childhood and even her adult life, the boy she had tormented incessantly as a child, cursed as a teenager, tried to kill as an adult, had fallen through a veil strung up in an archway.

And as he fell, she knew as if it was in her bones that the boy her endless game had raged with would not clamber out from behind it. The smile etched on his face would be his last; the smile of his victory.

The game may have ended between Bellatrix and Sirius, but it was clear from the maddening smirk on his face that he had won.

After all, they had never meant to kill one another – only play the game.

Because it had all been just a game, and the winner had complied with the one rule even to the very end.

For those of you who are unsure of what the one rule is, it is the quote at the beginning, which is actually part of the story.

I don't know why I wrote this one, I just like Bellatrix and Sirius and I like how in the book, she didn't actually cast any unforgiveables on Sirius in the end and it was really the veil that killed him.

Sorry.

Anyway,

Hope you like,

Rocky :D
